Comments about Petzl Cordex Lightweight Belay Gloves:

I had a pair of Metolius gloves (full gloves, not the open finger pair) that were getting old, so I decided to give the new-to-the-marked Petzl's a try.

Compared to the Metolius, which performed very well for several years, the Petzl's have better dexterity, which works much better in the rescue applications that I often use them in. The thinner leather means that I can feel heat a little faster then with the old gloves, but the gloves themselves stand up to it better, and it has not melted the stitching yet.

The Petzl's have better protection in the notch between the pointer and the thumb then my old gloves, which is where I tend to slide the rope instead of strait over the hand where most of the leather is.

The only downside I have found so far is that when you are wearing these gloves for a long time and sweat, or when you use them in a wet environment, your hands will turn very noticeable yellow that is VERY hard to wash off with anything less then time- it goes away after a day or so.

I have had them for about 6 months, they wore in after the first couple of uses, and despite some punishment, all of the stitching is holding together very well.

Highly recommended, especially when you combine Petzl's reputation for quality and REI's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. Do your self a favor, think of your hands, and get these gloves.

Comments about Petzl Cordex Lightweight Belay Gloves:

My boss ordered a pair of these for me and the other guy in the shop. We do carpentry and rigging for a university forty hours a week, eight months a year. Using these not only as climbing gloves, but also for hoisting chain, running rope & pulleys, building, and demolition they are still holding up beautifully. I baby them a little, but they've lasted two full seasons. They're the most comfortable gloves I've owned. They've lasted twice as long as any other pair of gloves I've owned so far.

I can't account for the dye problem mentioned elsewhere, but I'm not out in rain much. These are great for belay, but I wouldn't climb in them. That said, I'd never climb wear anything on my hands but chalk. Additionally, the fabric backing is very nice and stretching, pretty abrasion resistant, but NOT heat resistant. It won't melt from standard use, but keep these clear from sparks, flame, or sources of extreme heat.

And you can pick up a dime while wearing them.

Great gloves. Don't bother looking around. Petzl nailed it, and REI has the standard price.

Comments about Petzl Cordex Lightweight Belay Gloves:

I take a lot of groups and friends out climbing. Since many first timers prefer rappelling over climbing I do a lot of it. Factor in that I am usually belaying the ones who do climb, and you can imagine my hands getting pretty nasty on a day out. I had been using some hacked up leather gloves from the fleet/farm store. These are a much better fit, better flex, and much safer. Yesssssss.
