Looks dorky, but great hat. No sunblock.

I have been using this hat for years now. In hindsight I can't believe I paid this much for it but I would do it again in a heartbeat. BOTTOM LINE: Have something to protect your head during rains and this hats perfect brim will handle everything from extreme sun to severe hailstorms and adjust as needed in between. I never carry sunblock and this, combined with a longsleeve hiking shirt and pants have kept me burn-free through the past 5 years of hiking. PROS: -the brim is wide enough to block the afternoon sun, but can easily be "folded back" while still maintaining a small brim so you can get added visibility in less sun without taking off the hat -lightweight -floats -"redneck" protector works and it stays velcrod up if you want the extra little ventilation -simple neckcord, pretty plain and works fine nothing unnecessary -The big one; I list it under cons as well: It is not waterproof. When it rains the hat will absorb the water and get wet. HOWEVER, combined with a rain jacket hood worn -under- the hat, it works **beautifully**. The hat will get wet, but the brim is thick and water does not drip in your face. Although the brim prevents water from dripping into your face, you still need something to protect your hair or your head will get soaked. CONS: -It is not waterproof. When it rains the hat will absorb the water and get wet. HOWEVER, combined with a rain jacket hood worn -under- the hat, it works beautifully. The hat will get wet, but the brim is thick and water does not drip in your face. I list this under cons only because the hat itself is not waterproof (on the top); although the brim prevents water from dripping into your face, you still need something to protect your hair or your head will get soaked. -Despite being awesome, it is still a little pricy

Too dorky looking for running

I bought this hat for extended sun coverage for running - it's really hard to find a sport hat with a brim that covers the side of your face and ears. I read in one of the reviews the back flap could be rolled up. Well, it can't - I suppose you could tuck it into the hat itself, but it would add extra heat to your head. So I'm too self concious to wear this running. But it's a good hat overall so I still use it for hiking and even then, I look at pictures of me with it on while hiking and cringe. It runs pretty big. I got a medium and my head is on the large side (for a woman). The strap in the back can be tightened so fit is fine. I'm considering cutting off the flap - it looks too weird. The chin strap material is very cheap and has already snagged on itself, but overall the quality is good.

Fun and Convenient Sun Protection

In sunny southern Nevada sunglasses are not enough - sun gets to your eyes from the sides and top... Regular hats were helping with blocking rays from the top only, caused my head to sweat excessively and were frequently blown off my head by wind gusts. This hat protects from the sides and is exceptionally light and breathable, so sweating is no longer a problem. Strap holds the hat in place in windy conditions and lets me hang it on my back when I get inside for a while - heavier hats give me choking sensation in similar situation, but this one is so light I can barely feel it. I was afraid that neck veil will be causing additional sweating on the back of my neck, but it did not happen. My only wish is that REI had it in more colors...

I work outside at a high school in sunny SO CA and have fair skin. I have been wearing these hats for over ten years now. I first found out about them at my dermatologist's office where they are sold. Now I usually order online to get them in my school colors. I alternate between two different hats throughout the year. I wash them by hand and they come out nice and clean. After I've worn them out, which is usually after two or three years of daily use, I wear them at home when I work in my garden or while doing other outside projects. These hats really do offer great protection from the sun from your neck up. I LOVE these hats!

It's been everywhere

I've taken this hat to hike Yosemite, safari in Africa, and climb Kilimanjaro. It's also been on plenty of local trips to the park and beach. It's comfortable and I love having the pony tail opening when my hair get lots. My only complaint is that the material used to stiffen the brim doesn't fold well. Over time, visible creases appear all over the brim after washes and when the hat gets crushed in suitcases. Just an aesthetic issue, but sure wish the hat was more crushable.

Lightweight, cool, comfortable and protective.

Super lightweight- feels like air. Keeps me cool - I hardly know I have it on. The brim is large enough to give good coverage but not so large you can’t garden or play. You’d think it was made of Kevlar- it simply won’t wear out. I machine wash and dry - mold the brim a bit and It’s good. I think it runs plenty large but is adjustable for a perfect fit. Truth be told I cut away the flap that hangs over your neck. It was easy and didn’t affect the performance or longevity of the hat in any way. The ONLY reason I’m purchasing another after years of use is that mine is white and my perspiration has yellowed the fabric a bit. You will have no regrets with this purchase.

Less Sun Protection Than Adventure Hat

I bought the sport hat for my 8 year old son in size large because the kids hats are too small for him and he likes his hat a little roomy so that it doesn’t make his sunglasses crooked on his face. Also his favorite color is red and I think this was the only hat with a brim and neck drape that came in red. Overall, he likes it and it is designed well. It doesn’t have quite as much sun coverage as the Adventure Hat, which I have. And similar to a baseball cap, there’s a semi-circle gap on the back of the head where there is no fabric for sun protection. Since he is still a kid, I wish the chin strap had the quick release safety feature that the kids hats have.

Perfect hat for big hair

This is the first hat that I have been able to find that fits my big hair and is not tight or too ridiculous looking. It has a nice big brim, you can tuck the neck flaps into the hat if you don't want them. The hat is light weight, easily packable and breathes. Great for gardening or hiking. I looked on the company website and they have many other styles, as well as many great reviews. Glad I found this hat!!!

Seems like I buy a new hat everytime we go on vacation. They all have one or more good features. But this hat is perfect, it has everything: wide brim for good sun protection, neck protection, chin strap, lightweight, packable, and comfortable. And don't forget stylish. Absolutely love the lavendar color, beautiful and feminine. I have fair skin so sun protection is important for me since we love the outdoors. This hat was a nice treat in preparation for a trip to Kauai this year and Rocky Mountain National Park next year. We have been to both places in the past and oh my, could I have used this hat. I will have it for the future both on vacation and for outdoor acivities at home.

Buy This Hat!

Now this is a hat! I've traveled all over the world with this hat and the single most frequent question I'm asked is, where can I buy one? (Actually that's the second most frequently asked question. The first is, "Can I have yours?") This hat is perfect in the sun, perfect in the rain, has excellent coverage, doesn't leave your head sweaty and is washable. You can throw this baby in the washing machine if you like. It holds it shape even when it's rolled and stuffed in a backpack. I've had two for 3 years now and the rim of my husband's is just starting to fade. But that's a testimont to how often it's worn. There's even a bit of a social club with these hats. Whenever we see someone else with one (or they see us) - especially if its overseas - we just gotta stop and say, "Hey, where'd you get yours?"

I have worked for three years for an automobile rental company located at our local airport. This hat is my best investment. I drive anywhere from 40 to 60 cars a day and have to back them into parking spaces. I am able to see all around with no interference from my hat and when driving west in the late afternoon. I can also just tip my brim and the hat works better than any automobile sun visor too. We get a good wind from the ocean here and the adjustable strap keeps my hat firmly in place. All the workers at the airport know me by my purple hat. Thanks Sunday Afternoons for this wonderful hat.

I own several styles of Sunday Afternoon hats and this might be my favorite. More moderate sized than some of the large brimmed hats but still cute on, portable size and great sun protection. Plan to use at Disneyland and elsewhere. Also I have bought several of these hats for gifts and they are greatly appreciated. I have the blue chambray and the white w/navy interior. The white is my favorite. My big head measures just under 22 1/2 but I prefer the large because I am claustrophobic in tight hats. This hat runs average not large. The medium fits but does not feel roomy. Bottom line: BUY THIS HAT! "
