Comments about Adventure Medical Thermo-Lite II Single Bivvy:
I bought this bivvy to be a light weight replacement to my sleeping bag. I tested this out last weekend on a short weekend hike and while it was nice because it is small and light the performance was not desired. The bag will keep you plenty warm it does not breathe and large amounts of condensation built up. Waking up soaking wet in cold weather is not fun. This bag would be good for emergencies though.

Comments about Adventure Medical Thermo-Lite II Single Bivvy:
I have packed this bivy on every day hike and backcountry skiing trip I have done for the past two years. It offers emergency shelter and warmth in case of a backcountry emergency requiring a long wait for help. For its size and weight I dont think it can be beat for this use. Dont bother with the cheapo $2 space blankets, they provide little insulation and shred too easily.I also have used this bivy as a ground sheet multiple times. I use a silnylon tarp, and throw this little bivy under my sleeping pad. It has never soaked through. I have used it in conjunction with my tarp in the snow as well. It provides more insulation as a ground sheet than tyvek, and in case of extremely low temperatures, you can hop inside it in the middle of the night. Expect condensation inside of it in the morning. Keep that in mind if you use a down winter bag.It held up well for about a year before the side opening tore open a few inches. It was easily field repaired with duct tape, and the repair has help up for over a year. This is meant to be an EMERGENCY device. Understand its limitations and you'll be very happy with it.

Comments about Adventure Medical Thermo-Lite II Single Bivvy:
Even for someone who runs on as minimal amount of gear as possible I found this thing completely worthless, and how it is possible for the other reviewer to give something like this 5 stars is absolutely beyond me. This product is designed for emergency use to keep you warm in a survival situation, the fact that it might double as a groundsheet is irrelevant, and with that in mind my low rating comes from having used it in a mock survival situation with my search and rescue unit for its actual intended purpose.
Stuck outside overnight in mid to high 30's temperatures with only a survival shelter and this bivvy, I found that I would have been better off rolling myself up in my tarp with a layer of grass lining acting as an insulator. The bivvy tore with ease, the velcro had a habit of popping open and aside from the one benefit of providing a minimal amount of warmth for a period of time, the trade-off was to find myself soaking wet, something which you want to avoid in a true survival situation. Should you need to get out of the bivvy, you will now find yourself cold *and* wet, and worse off than before as you attempt to reenter the sack without ripping it apart.
I realize any product along these lines will have similar limitations, I just found that this in particular did not meet my expectations in any way and I'm glad that I tested it out in a mock survival test rather than having found out how useless it was in an actual time of need.
There are plenty of ways to keep warm in a survival situation and this bivvy is not one of them; if anything, it puts you at greater risk because in addition to being cold, you will now be soaking wet.
