Works great, pushing a lot of air.
I got this pump for my Advanced Elements Convertable Inflatable Kayak and it works great. It definitely gets the blood flowing when you have to pump up a large kayak but it does the job in about 4 or 5 minutes. The adapters fit my kayak perfectly (probably because it's the same company) and although people were saying the hose is flimsy I've never thought that. I'd say it is very flexible but I've never worried about it breaking. I leave it wrapped around the base when I stow it but never really take the hose off the inflate outlet because my kayak deflates itself pretty easily. Overall works great, easy to use, lightweight, and doesn't take up a lot of space.
Easy to Use
I can inflate the main chamber in my Advanced Elements Sport Kayak in about 45 pumps, and it is easy to do without a break (and I am pretty small). Adapters fit well, but the cord that attaches them to the pump is so short that it is hard to maneuver and grab the one you need. Honestly--an extra inch of cord wouldn't have killed them when they designed the thing. Hose does seem a bit flimsy but so far it is OK. I do not find that I need a gauge, I can feel when the boat is ready. I am glad I did not buy a more expensive pump.
good value, flimsy hose
advanced elements uses boston valves that require screw top adapter that is uncommon. needed to purchase the entire pump to get the adapter. the pump is fine just like any other dual action i have had the hose is flimsy at best it kinks at slightest provocation and the tips are hard to change getting them in is hard removing them is harder because the hose is so flimsy. still i paid less for this pump then most my other dual action so replace the hose and it would be great.
buy the product with the gauge
This pump needs the gauge to keep the air chambers of Advanced Elements products in range to prevent damage or underinflation as their manual states. Don't use this if you want a good experience with a very good inflatable kayak. The $50 model with the gauge works as it should and will prevent you from an unnecessary product return. PS the one person version REI sells will go upstream almost as well as a hardshell. and is very stable.
Great product
I bought this and the electric pump for the advanced elements inflatible kayak. After using this I don't even bring the electric one with me. I inflates it two minutes with minimal effort. This is a great. The only drawback would be it's size it's not big but that would be the only thing I could think of.
Not for the big stuff.
This pump is sold under at least two different names. It came with an inflatable canoe that I purchased. The first thing I noticed was that it was very light weight- not really a positive in a floor pump for pumping a large inflatable. The pump comes with several adaptors, none of which fit any of the higher end inflatable valves. By using the adaptor I was able to attach it to my inflatables valve, but it leaked until I used some electrical tape. In actual use the pump is flimsy under force with the pump arm flexing when you push down. The instructions on the pump tell you not to pump with the handle off center- in a properly constructed and sturdy pump this wouldn't be possible as the arm would center itself in the housing. I must admit I didn't use the pump to fully inflate my canoe- after about 5 minutes of pumping the canoe floor still wasn't even half full, and I still had the two main tubes to inflate. I ended up using my shop vac to inflate the tubes then the pump to finish off the inflation and bring the tubes to the proper PSI. For a small inflatable that is used infrequently this pump would probably work fine. For a large higher end inflatable you probably want something a bit sturdier- I can't see this thing lasting more than a couple of inflations. On a side note, I used a cheap 12 volt pump from this same company and it worked flawlessly.
Does what it's supposed to do
Inflated my kayak in a matter of minutes. Deflated my kayak in a matter of minutes. Easy to use. No problems.
No pressure gauge
The pump works great. I like the double action pump (which pumps air when pulling the handle up as well as pushing down). However, I had to return it because there was no pressure gauge on it so you couldn't tell how much air you were putting in.
it's ok
it doesn't show you the psi and it doesn't have any easy way to hold the different valves.
Tremendous air flow
I needed a high volume pump to fill the home made safety bladders I used on my Folbot kayak, which fill basically the entire bow and stern sections. They take a LOT of air to get filled up properly. This pump more than fills that need. The dual action means that it pumps air both on the down and the up strokes, and the big internal volume gives a lot of air per stroke. When you need to deflate again, just move the air line to the other side of the handle, and it works as a vacuum too, which is a huge time saver and pulls the last bit of air out of anything inflatable. Comes with a bunch of nozzles, to fit just about anything, including my float bladders that use beach ball type valves. My only concern is that the hose seems to be a bit thin-walled, and kinked badly in a couple of places. It doesn't alter the function at all, but I don't know if they are going to hold up long term.
