Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
I love the flicklock adjustability. There is no substitute. I've taken these poles backpacking, ice trekking and basically pushed the poles to their limits in a variety of grueling conditions and I am constantly amazed at how easy it is to adjust them on the go and how they hold up to the beating that I give them. They may be a little scuffed up, but they still work as well as the day I bought them. I can't even get them to colapse on me like the twist lock poles I had. If I can ever break these, I will be purchasing another set. I give these my highest recommendation.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
As a beginner, I kinda felt trekking poles looked, well, wimpy. However, my brother, who is a very experienced backpacker, lent me a walking stick, and I was quickly converted. (I think huffing and puffing upwards in the Ozark Highlands helped me to become a believer, too. Having fallen into a creek once because I didn't have poles also helped.) So, if you're wondering whether or not to get trekking poles: DO. Like my brother says, they're 4-wheel drive for the legs. I decided to buy the Black Diamond trail poles because of their FlickLock design, and, I must say, they are fantastic. I took them out on a 5-mile hike along the Ouachita Trail, and they truly saved my thighs and knees. It's the difference between limping to your car at trail's end or walking like normal. The poles are so light that at first I wondered if they'd hold up, but they did, and I have no worries now. I wouldn't consider them to be the strongest pole out there--at 190 lbs., I won't be vaulting over boulders with them. But, they are light, sturdy, and do the job well. They collapse down pretty small and are extremely easy to adjust, and I experienced no slipping. The band around the wrist is really simple and easy for me to adjust as well. I will not hit the trail without them.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
This is the 4th trekking pole I've been through. MSR Denalli III bent on me (I'm 6'1 210), the REI carbon fiber pole's joint failed before I even went on the trail, and the Black Diamond Elliptical poles are crazy heavy and noisy. So I bought these and am very happy. The biggest selling point aside from weight is the joints. They are very strong and easy to adjust.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
These are my third pair of poles. If you will buy your poles, adjust them once, and never again--any pole will do. But if you travel like me and need to shorten them for car trunks or airplane check-in, the binary "turning" mechanism on other poles become non-functional after awhile. These "flik locks" are outside, so you can adjust or fix them. I love them.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
After having tried several trekking poles, with and without anti-shock, I can say that this pair is definitely my favorite. The selling point is the flick-lock mechanism, which is super easy to adjust and is way more reliable than the twist-locking system most trekking poles use. I found the twist-locking poles very hard to adjust, and the locking mechanism fails way too easily. These poles are maybe not as light as carbon composite poles, but they are plenty light for me and not as hard on the pocketbook. Highly recommended.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
After trying nearly every pole in the Colorado Springs store, I went with these because they seemed the most stable when extended nearly to their max (I'm 6'3" 220, not exactly the smallest guy out there). I just returned from Great Sand Dunes NP where these poles performed perfectly! They were able to hold me up as I climbed some seriously steep dunes, and I'm sure they're just as stable in the snow. And the flick-lock was great when I needed to adjust from short (for climbing the dunes) to longer (for the trails), I was able to do so without stopping or really even thinking about it.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
I read several articles about the benefits of using walking poles such as revving your metabolism, using & toning more muscle and relieving lower back pain. It is the last one that continued to catch my attention. It totally blew me away the first time I walked with the poles, I had no back pain and this carried over then into when I cooked, washed dishes and ironed. I was utterly amazed at going from breath wrenching pain to no pain at all. Again, given the benefits of being able to walk 3 miles with absolutely no pain (and I lost 25 lbs in a month) I would pay triple for another pair if necessary.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
I bought these to use on a thirty-mile hike through the Yellowstone backcountry, and they were absolutely great! I'm 6'6", 220 lbs. and these poles never failed me. I put a lot of weight on these things throughout the hike. I stumbled and almost fell a few times but caught my weight (and my fully loaded pack) with the poles and they never bent or collapsed.
Halfway through the hike, I developed a blister on one of my heels so I hiked the rest of the distance wearing hiking socks and water/trekking sandals. If it hadn't been for these poles, I would have wrecked my ankles an/or knees during the last half of the trip. These poles saved my knees (one of which has a replaced ACL), ankles, and back.
I don't know how I would have crossed the many makeshift bridges (a.k.a. downed trees) and thigh deep river fords along the trail without these poles. They were absolute lifesavers!
The poles were also great for prodding marshy ground to see how firm it was. At one point, while hiking in a swampy area next to a river, I stuck on of my poles into an area of ground that I thought would be a good spot for my next step. Instead of feeling solid ground, the shaft sunk into mud all the way up to the handle! Were it not for these poles, I probably would have ended up in a chest deep pool of muck.
I will never go hiking without these poles!

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
Just returned from a 4 night stay in Rocky Mountian national park. With all the ups and downs the poles never once collapsed or even flexed enough to bother me. At around 265lbs with pack I didn't know how they would perform but I recommend them to anyone. One of my buddies on the trip bought a pair of Leki that worked great for him, just didn't adjust as fast as the flicklock. Can't go wrong at this price, I would definitely buy them again, and again, and again.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles - Pair:
These poles are fantastic! After being very disappointed with the REI brand poles I took these out and really tried to trash them. They are strong, easy to adjust, very supportive and best as I can tell extremely difficult to break. I ran these poles up and down the snow covered sierra, fell on them, rolled on top of them, really tried to trash them and they just kept asking for more. These poles are a must have and they will be an essential part of my gear for many years to come.
