        This hat works well in hot, humid weather and in the wind. The plush sweatband wicks sweat away and evaporates it through the breathable fabric and resists sweat-staining. The mesh crown ventilates well. It stays relatively dry and cool inside. The broad brim provides good shade for the face, ears and neck. In a strong wind, it stays on well with the chin cord, and the rigid brim resists flopping. Not my first choice for travel as it is not really crushable and won't do well in a suitcase. Also not ideal for water sports as the cotton twill can waterlog if submerged. My favorite hat for yard work, day trips and general daily use. My most comfortable hat and a good value.

          Besides providing a cooling airstream, I thought that the mesh would eliminate or at least moderate the sun's rays. But in my case enough solar energy came through to leave me with a doughnut-shaped sunburn on my head (though the top of the hat, which is not mesh, provided adequate protection). Since I have little hair in that area, that may have been a contributing factor. But in such case, an additional caveat to the emptor would have been helpful.

              I ordered the large based on the circumference dimensions on the webpage, but it was too large. Seems to run a full size too big. Also the photo is misleading, it shows a white layer inside the vented part that is not really there. It is fully vented; great for air but bad if you have a bald spot. Other than that, a good hat at a good price.

                    Use care before buying this hat if you are concerned about sun protection. The large mesh band allows sun to burn scalp area. This is a very poor design for a product that claims to provide sun protection. My dermatologist made me return this hat.

                        I bought this hat for day hikes in the Colorado Rockies. It provides excellent coverage from the blazing sun, and the moisture wicking band and ventilated sides work very well. Not only does it do a good job at keeping the sun out of my eyes but also neck and shoulders.

                        It is true that if you are bald you may get sun burn since the sides are mesh, but a bit of sun block takes care of that issue. I wouldn't consider it a major deterrent from using this hat.

                        The strap is definitely handy to have on windy days.

                        If you plan on spending hours outside doing recreational activities then this is a worthy investment.

                          This is the best sun/heat hat I've found. The mesh gives great ventilation, especially if there is even the slightest breeze. The brim provides ample protection from sun. It doesn't stand up to much of a beating, not crushable, but keep it in a safe place and it's super.
