Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
As with many other reviewers, I initially bought this lamp to have as a backup. When my other, bulkier, heavier and frankly uncomfortable headlamp ran out of batteries, I put this one on and never looked back.
I have owned one for about a year now, and have since bought them for the rest of the family. We enjoy goecaching, and the unpredictability of finding a hidden treasure in the woods often means hiking out in the dark. These lamps are so small and convenient, it's not even hard to get the kids to carry and use them.
Many of the newer headlamps are just too bright for me to use. I like the night, and trying to hike with a headlamp that is so bright it wrecks your night vision is like trying to sightsee in a tunnel.
Stargazers especially will like the red LED, which allows you to refer to charts or notes without going blind. And the way the switch works, essentially with an "off" position at both ends of the arc, you don't need to constantly toggle through all the brightnesses to turn the red light on and off.
Another absolute plus is the case this thing comes in. Small, protective, easy to find in a pack. or better yet, thread it on a belt or pack strap, and you can open it and put it on with one hand, without breaking stride. No more untangling your headlamp straps from your underwear.
The long battery life has been surprising to me. I seldom use the brightest settings, and I have yet to replace batteries in any of the 4 lamps my family uses. Easily 40-50 hours of use, and no noticeable loss of brightness. I haven't used the product in extreme cold, below 20F, but at least down to that point, it has performed well.
The adjustability of this light is also great. It can be securely clipped to a hat brim, a waistband or sleeve, a pack strap, or a gear loft or tent vent flap, and then pointed to where it's needed. Great for those rainy night in-tent poker games.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the fact that the LEDs are exposed, and that the switch is small ant fits tightly make this lamp a little less rigged than some others. I would not recommend it for frequent use in very dirty, gritty environments. We had one headlamp that got dropped at night onto the sand/gravel parking lot, then walked on and ground into the sand. The switch was very hard to get working again, but a toothbrush and some careful working back and forth eventually got it unjammed. Also, cleaning mud out of the LEDs when one was dropped in a creek bed was a challenge.
Which brings me to another "disadvantage" of this product. It's so light and comfortable that you might just forget you are wearing it. Because it's so light, there's no need for a wide, tight strap to keep it in place. The aforementioned muddy dunking came while removing my hat at a streamside break, and knocking the lamp off in the process, because I's forgotten it was there. Still works, though.
I don't often get this excited about a product, but I have to say that these things are the perfect headlamp. They're almost like a whole new category of product. They're more useful than any headlamp I've owned.

Two eLITES failed my wife and me while camping 7 nights in the Grand Canyon. The switches were stuck due to minor amounts of fine sand. Not abusive use at all, just small amounts blown in at night. The backup Mag lights bailed us out!

I got this for my birthday and love it. I LOVE IT. It's compact little bubble of light. The settings are pretty nifty too. I use it in the woods, climbing, and even in the city as blinkers while biking after dusk. Multi-uses for this little headlamp combined with its ultralight status make it a must.

I weigh all my stuff on a scale so I have an idea how much I am carrying when I set out on the weekend.
I weighed this light at 27g.
Out of curiosity, I weighed a large size Aloksak, which is like a super ziplock bag. It weighed 31g.
Incredible! And its relatively bright, super small, and more versatile than a normal headlamp because it can be clipped to hats etc.
I heart this headlamp.

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
The light was great and very bright. However, while on a 3 hour guided crawling cave tour, this was not the headlamp to use. I affixed it to my helmut and every time I grazed the ceiling or cave floor it would change settings (i.e. red light, dimmer, flashing) or completely turn off. It became extremely frustrating to all of a sudden be with out light in the pitch black without two hands always able to get to the light! It was also difficult to adjust the settings without looking at the device itself.
I'm sure I'll still use it for hiking, camping and backpacking as it is a very bright, compact, lightweight headlamp. But if your worried about easily changing settings, I would choose a headlamp that has a clickable button switch.

This is one awsome lamp. I bought it as a back up to one of my other lamps that burn thru. batteries and found myself using this one all the time for any suitation. Light weight, bright, easy to use. You cannot ask for more in a headlamp. Small enough to put in your pocket so you always have it with you. be careful though, its so small and light, you forget its there.

This little light is very comfortable to wear on your forehead. It has a thin strap that is adequate to hold the light in place, but it feels secure and is not bulky. The light itself can rotate 360 degrees and therefore is usable for every direction. The red light is fun to have for "mood lighting" in the tent.

I love this headlamp. It is small and lightweight. The beam adjustment is awsome and the variety of ways (comes with a clip or headband) to wear it makes for ease of use. The beam is not bright enough to do serious hiking by but to hang your bear bag after dark and get back to camp it works just fine. Also it is great for reading. Even though it lasts only 35-45 hours the batteries are compact and cheap enough to carry extras. Being waterproof is another benefit. Some other brands claim "Stormproof" but what does that mean if it is not waterproof?
