Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
I took this pack on a six week trip to South America. My buddy had a 60 L of another brand. We were carrying the exact same stuff but his pack seemed so much heavier. I had it packed with clothes, water, food, souvenirs, pesos...it was great. We hiked to Machu Picchu, and it performed awesome.
Drawbacks would be it being a bit tough to load with the way the internal frame bows into the main compartment. I couldn't fit my bearvault 400 in there, so I went and picked up a Garcia. It slides right down into the bottom like....well...fill that in. Garcia fits perfect if you are looking for a bear can. Then Sleeping bag upright next to tent upright. Spare socks/clothes interspersed. Waterproof shell on top. Stove, fuel, tools, fishing tackle in front pockets. Towel in stretchy front pocket. Bottles in side pockets (i recommend US army surplus plastic 1 qt canteens, they fit great). Maps, chapstick, bugspray, sunscreen in top lid pocket. Sleeping pad strapped to bottom. Pot strapped to daisy chain. Fishing rod in water bottle pocket routed up through cinch-down straps.
Full pack, good for a weeklong trip if you pack it right.
Also great to cinch down and do a quick fast hike.
I love this thing, I wish they made a bigger pack than the 65 with the Airspeed back. The mesh backpanel is better than any other pack made.
Buy it.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
I have been using my Atmos 50 since April 2006 for day hikes and 2-3 day backpacking trips during late spring, summer, and early fall. I place my sleeping bag (14"H x 7" Dia.)on one side of the torsion bars and the 2-person tent (23"H x 6"Dia.) goes on the other side. I stuff extra clothing and a 200 fleece jacket in the middle. Sleeping pad is strapped on the outside. Food, 1.5L water bottle goes on top. Other gear goes in the outside pockets/top lid. (Friend with the external frame pack carries the bear canister.) The waist belt pockets are excellent to store small items that need quick access to; bucket pocket is great for storing a paperback book and map. Personally I like longer shoulder strap pulls to comfortably take off the pack. The hip belts are attached 3" in from the outside edge of the pack and tend to fall in towards the middle when loaded with items which makes it slightly hard to reach behind when putting on the pack, however, not a factor at all considering the packs' overall comfort and utility. (Also,I use it for traveling instead of a duffel bag.) The pack is very comfortable and lightweight. I like knowing that only 3 lbs of the 25-30 lbs I am carrying on my back is the pack's weight and the rest is gear and supplies!

Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
I have been backpacking for many, many years. I have been a backpacking guide in the Rockies and have tried on numerous packs. I fell in love with this pack from the second I put it on. I am a small female and it fit better than the Aura (the frame is slightly more bowed on the Aura and put pressure on the small of my back).
I love the weight, I love the fit, the pockets, the fabric, everything. It carries 30 pounds very comfortably and is a wonderful size for my frame (5'1", 115)
My only complaint is that the pack frame intrudes into the main compartment, making it difficult to pack my sleeping bag.
I do need a pack that can fit a bit more than the Atmos 50, so I actually plan on getting the Atmos 65.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
Awesome backpack, I have done everything from an over nighter to a week long hike with this pack. Though on the week long one I really had to pack it to the gills. But with 35 lbs loaded into it, it handled the load really well.
The only negative thing that I can think of is when the pack is really loaded. It is hard to get the hydration bladder into the slot and when you do, it pushes on the bladder and if you don't have a good nosel on the end it will send water squirting.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
Very disappointed. Have used this for four winter hikes with some climbing interspersed. Top flap zipper constantly jams on fabric or separates and can't be fixed on the move. Pack is not functional with winter gear - - tools and poles block the side zippers. Suspension cause the pack to shift around - - if you cinch down the shoulder straps, then the suspension bottoms out and you have the frame against your back. I would not carry more than 20 lbs in this pack. Not a year round pack - - it is a summer hiking day pack or light overnighter and there are better less expensive alternatives based on my experience and other packs I have.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
I'm a trail worker and I own the older version of this pack. A friend owned it and was quite happy with it's versatility and reliability. It's a lightweight pack with tons of room inside and plenty of ways to attach on the outside. I've carried over 80lbs of gear inside and outside this thing and it was a breeze. I've carried chainsaws on it and inside it, with no melting or tearing. I take this pack with me everywhere I go, it's my best friend outdoors. I wouldn't only suggest this product to a friend but I would buy it for them myself. The frame seems a bit fragile but it's so lightweight that it's worth it, also osprey is really good about frame repair/replacement. I've never had any issues with water getting into this pack either, even through some real serious monsoon days. I 100% support this pack, it's the only pack that has always been there for me and reliable to the finish.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
Even though the side pockets can be a little diffcult when you have a stuffed pack and then you try to stick to full Nalgenes in each side; other than that this pack is perfect for almost anything! The best part about the pack (that took me about 3 months to figure out) is that you can put stuff the back of pack when there is cold weather or you need more stuff. I love this pack; best birthday/ christmas presant I have ever bought for myself!

I took this pack to New Zealand. It handled well with day or extended hikes. The pack may look small, but holds a ton! The air vent in the back helps a lot!

Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
This pack was a perfect fit for my "golite" trips, it is all about lite. I know [...]Osprey has always stayed true to his suspension system and even though the hipbelt and shoulder straps are light they still support with comfort and strength. The frame and mesh back is awesome, providing the best ventalation and load distribution I've experienced in an internal frame pack.I took this pack on trips I knew it had no business to be, on a sierra mule deer bow hunt and an Idaho elk hunting trip. I had it loaded to the gills and then some. The outside pockets and straps were great for loading the flyrod and tent poles as well as my stove and water filter. I ended up carrying some heavy loads and I was amazed at how well the atmos 50 handled it.The only disadvantage was carrying a bear container in the Sierras. The shape of the pack only allowed the can to be shoved in last and it was a bear vault solo to boot.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 50 Pack:
i used this pack for 7-wks backpack/hostel trip in europe spring 2007. it was the perfect choice. pack wasn't thick so i was able to take it on plane as carry-on. simple design, fits my purpose.
one downside to this pack is shoulder straps doesn't have thick padding, thus, not ideal for heavy loads. throughout my entire trip, my pack weighed anywhere between 10-15 kg max (depending how much food/water i had). i had no shoulder/back issue @ all throughout the 7-wks.
