Comments about REI Vacuum Infuser Mug - 12 oz.:
I have to agree with those who said it is unstable and top-heavy. That said, I have never owned a coffee cup that didn't fall out of the cupholder from time to time - though you shouldn't even bother putting this one in the cupholder. The thing is though, this one has a spill-proof lid that keep the "life blood coffee" in and not in your crotch or floor of your car, so on this item, the pros far outweigh the cons. The two-piece lid is absolutely brilliant. Combine this mug with an immersion heater and you can make a hot cup of coffee the overnight train from Istanbul (not Constantinople) to Sofia, or make a cup of tea inside the secure area at Heathrow, helping you in your quest for world domination and declaring war on airport drink price-gouging!! Ah...you can do the same thing in the back country too with a stove, throw grounds and hot water in, close the lid, shake vigorously....soon, you'll have the power of caffeine prying your eyes open so that you can enjoy the day. The cup fits handily inside a cargo pocket, leaving your hands free for fighting off overzealous drum-wallahs in Delhi. Really, this cup is probably one of the best things I have ever purchased.[...]

The Cons out weigh the Pros. Pro: Great concept. Cons: too small (needs to be 16oz-to-20oz), too tall (does not fit in a cup holder) and too unstable (tips over on uneven ground)

This does keep drinks hot very well. And when I screw on the cover it is like having a thermos that suddenly transforms into a travel mug when I take off the cover. The shape makes it slide into the side pockets of backpacks and bags. The filter makes it useful for coffee and tea. I took it with me when I deployed overseas and used it for this.
Problem is that it is too thin and tall. Being thin makes it clunk around most cup holders (and tips over). Also, it is prone to tipping because it is top heavy.
If it was a little wider it would be perfect. Still would recommend it.

Comments about REI Vacuum Infuser Mug - 12 oz.:
This mug is completely leak-proof. It's been sideways and upside-down in my bag and not spilled a drop. It's light-weight for casual use, but if you're into super-light backpacking, I wouldn't reccommend it for that. It's a little unstable in a regular car cup holder, but it is the perfect size for my small hands and school backpack pocket.

Comments about REI Vacuum Infuser Mug - 12 oz.:
Ive been deployed to Afghanistan for the last six months and this coffee cup has proven itself useful on every mission I've been on. Yet, its sexy enough for the office.
It makes the perfect two cups of coffee and if I get busy in the field the cup keeps the coffee pipping hot for six hours. It has been the envy of every SF guy whose seen it.
I would buy one for everyone in my office and every team guy I know, but as it turns out I'm not rich. Instead I tell them all where they can get one, as I settle in the back of the humvee with my kickin, easy to use coffee cup.
A word of warning. This cup keeps coffee really hot for a really long time. The first time I used it I nearly blistered my mouth.

I needed the perfect cup to take along to my evening classes and this is just what I was looking for! The tea strainer is perfect for loose tea and the cup itself keeps liquids hot for hours and hours. I actually have to make sure the water I add isn't too hot or else I'll never be able to drink my tea during class. The slim line takes up little space in my backpack and the lid seals perfectly so no worries about leaks. I couldn't be happier with this item!

Comments about REI Vacuum Infuser Mug - 12 oz.:
I used to own a Nissan travel mug which I loved! Not sure where I lost it. :-( That was the only mug that ever kept my drinks hot enough until I found this mug. This mug will keep your drinks hot for longer than it will take to finish your drink. It is slim, light weight, has a filter to steep coffee or tea in as well and has a screw on cap so if your cup does tip over you won't have any spills to clean up. Ok, so here comes the but part...it is a little unstable due to the tall slim design, the screw on top does have to be removed to drink, it's tough to get my man hands in to wash the bottom of the mug and it probably won't fit securely in your cup holder. All in all, this is a great mug and I think the benefits outweigh the inconveniences. Maybe when the manufacturer decides to upgrade that will take some of these into mind. Peace!

I use this mug everyday for coffee, tea, water, anything liquid. I haven't used the filter to make coffee in the mug yet. But just as a regular travel mug, I think this really is the best I've seen - a compact sized thermos that converts into a travel mug when you remove the cover. It's completely leak proof when closed. And it keeps drinks piping hot for hours. The shape and size are compact and easy to toss into a backpack. I like this mug so much that it's also now one of my favorite gifts to give to friends and family.

Comments about REI Vacuum Infuser Mug - 12 oz.:
I've used this mug nearly every day since I got it. It's amazing in its simplicity. Add hot water, coffee/tea of choice, screw on lid, and sip at your convenience. Contents in this mug stay hot for a long time. I recently took this mug on a climbing trip where it was in the 20s and low 30s all day long. I made some coffee before we left camp around 8:30 am and was still sipping warm coffee at 2:00 pm.
The only things I've noticed that I don't like about the product are that sometimes things stay too hot (undrinkable) for too long and that the lid needs a place to go when you take it off to drink. A loop-top lid similar to the ones you find on Nalgene bottles would be an excellent addition for the next model.
If you like warm drinks, you can't go wrong with this mug.
Cheers.
