Comments about Kelty Sunshade - Medium:
I originally purchased one in 1994 to use during a Grand Canyon kayaking trip. We used it almost every time we beached to provide precious shade from the merciless desert sun. I didn't dry pack it and so it endured 20-30 cycles of immersion/bake. In 1997 it returned for another 18-day Canyon excursion.
After I pro-created and semi-retired the kayaks, the sunshade has been relegated to beach duty (another 40 days of hard usage).
The canopy is now faded and the poles are finally starting to splinter (duct taped em) - time to think about replacing it. Overall its been a great work horse. Much lighter and durable than those quick shade contraptions.
Be sure to use guy it down in heavy winds.

Comments about Kelty Sunshade - Medium:
Saw this shade on local beach, and started looking into it. The reviews on the web were mixed, sort of leaning towards the good side. Finally got one. Couldn't wait to try it out in the back yard.
1. Some reviews said it was difficult to set up by one person. It is true, if you follow the instructions to the letter. I just couldn't pop the canopy up by myself, after inserting the poles in the sleeves. But I found it was much easier by getting under the center of the canopy and lifted it up. The ends of the poles would droop down. You just let them "drive" into the ground and stay there. The structure would stay up with limited stability. Then you would go to each pole and pull the fabric down so that the pole's end could go into the grommet.
2. Once it was up, I found it was much roomier than I had expected. It was pretty sturdy too. Even though I haven't taken it to the beach, I am sure it will do fine. It is a bit heavy compared to a tent. But it is actually pretty light and compact compared to any other sun shade, which can be easily over 30 lbs.
By and by, it is not bad, not bad at all.

Comments about Kelty Sunshade - Medium:
Very pleased with the shade protection the sunshade offers my family. Offers decent privacy, can still see out quite well. Sit low to avoid visability problems. Can be hot inside if there isn't a breeze. Never trouble finding your setup at the beach. Excellent system to secure tent legs to the ground. I did have a shockcord break early on, problem easily fixed.

Comments about Kelty Sunshade - Medium:
I've used it at the beach and at the parks this summer and it is great. It's easy to set up, good coverage and looks much better than the traditional sunshades. It is a must for families with very small children who wants to chill out at the beach. Adjustable height is a plus.

Comments about Kelty Sunshade - Medium:
I have had a medium for around 6 years. It has always been great. I think in a heavy wind one section of one of the poles finally split. I just duct taped it and it has been great. My family got bigger and i bought a Large a few years later. I wish i had two mediums, the large has not proved to be as durable. All of the poles in the large have multiple split sections. The medium just keeps going strong! The stakes didn't help a lot at the beach, but i had a friend advise me to take sandbags, fill them at the beach and then use them rather than the stakes. I'm excited to try that, although the sun shade does look kind of cool blowing and tumbling down the beach.

Comments about Kelty Sunshade - Medium:
My wife and I have been using this item for kayaking trips in the San Juan Islands in WA state and in BC, Canada for several years. It's a little awkward in set-up and best done with two people. However, it makes those rainy days in camp much more pleasant. We usually place it over the picnic table and have a sheltered area out of the rain to cook, eat and just hang out. It also affords a little privacy at the more crowded campsites. So far it has stood up to moderately windy conditions well. I never mastered the art of creative tarping so this has been an excellent alternative.
