Comments about Asolo Expert GV GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
Summited Mt. Shuksan in the Northern Cascades with these new boots (Alpine approach, glacier/snowfield ascent, with 600 feet of class 3-4 rock to summit). Encountered cold, rain, mud, snow, and ice on the approach; then warm, snow, ice, and rock on the summit day. My feet were always dry when others' were not(I was blown away), blister free (with almost no break-in prior to the climb)and well rooted on all surfaces. I'm usually skeptical of overly glowing reviews such as this, but it accurately reflects the days I spent in these boots.

I love these boots they live up to all the other multitude of Asolo boots I have owned and loved. Great company and a great boot. I would have given it a 4.5 [...]. Important note Asolo size 9 US is 42.5 European and if you also look at Scarpa Boots there 9.5 US is a 42.5 so you may be a 9.5 in Scarpa but a 9.0 in Asolo, don't be afraid to try a half size down (in US) or ask for your European size (Better fit through European sizes than the US sizes.

Comments about Asolo Expert GV GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
Excellent boot for strictly mountain routes. I used this boot on the Haute Route in Switz and found it far too stiff for extended use on trail. Excellent boot for glacier traverses, some technical climbing, etc...excellent fit with a strap-on crampon but VERY stiff as advertised. Left me with bruised feet and a very bad gash on the back of my foot after 9+ hrs on trail. Beware getting something too stiff for your intended use and get good insoles if you're going to use these.

Comments about Asolo Expert GV GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
These are a very stiff boot. They are best for snow or ice but the lack of bend in the midsole make hiking in on the approach hard on the feet. I climbed some easy 5.4 rock in them and did fine and also did fine in the snow.
They have absolutly no cusioning in the sole of the boot. On the decent of the hike out my soles were burning and think I brused the fat pad on my feet. It felt just like I was stepping down on the hard metal shank with every step. I am heading for some Dr sholes or somthing to cusion the blow. So I would recommend these more for snow and if you are doing mixed stuff with long approaches you might consider one of the lighter more flexable boots. I did step in a creek and in a big puddle and my foot stayed dry.

I used these on a 80 day nols semester in new zealand and had them on every day and they were great. Backpacking with them was good i know they were a little stiff but with a heavy pack they did great. very water proof, with the combination of gaiters i could walk through small rivers witout getting wet, most times.
As For mountaineering they were good spring weather boots and kept me dry again. i am not sur if they would be warm enough for some winter temperatures.
also very durable, i believe i will be using these for years to come since other peoples boots on my trip completely fell apart

I love these boots! I wanted a good winter boot for ice climbing and general mountaineering. I tried a couple other brands, which I brought back because of the poor fit. I found these to be comfortable after only a week of walking a mile loop around the nieghborhood. The heel rand holds my strapon crampons in with a nice tight fit and the stiff sole makes them excellent for front pointing while ice climbing. I've ice climbed all winter in Alaska in these boots on both glacier and water ice. They are not the warmest boot, my toes were pretty cold on an ice climbing day at 12 below zero and very cold one night snow cave camping at 9 below. Over all though their performance while snow-shoeing, glacier travelling, or ice climbing has been excellent. My feet are comfortably warm at and above zero and the fit is the best I've found.

These are great boots with a lot of support. I use them for SAR, where we are typically off trail and carrying heavy loads. I've done 3 mountains with them and although at points I thought I was going to get blisters (mountains were all dry and hot this year) none ever developed. The straps aren't very difficult to adjust but they do have a little getting used to and the top of the boot almost closes entirely around my ankle (covering the tounge entirely) making it almost too large of an opening, (I have a medium build) The Vibram soles are key, I will never buy another boot without them. I will update this when I get some winter conditions on them.

I was really looking for similar La Sportiva boots, but found them too narrow for me. The Asolo's were an accidental find, but now I'm a believer. They fit quite nicely, and I'm happy with how the laces fit and feel. They feel like a 7 out of 10, even without custom soles (next paycheck). These boots jive well with my BD Sabretooth crampons, too.

Boots take a bit more break in than other brands. I have put 40 miles on them and they are great. Still stiff yet comfortable. Havent attached crampons as of yet. Worked well with my MSR snowshoes.

Comments about Asolo Expert GV GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
I got these to fill in the gap between my lightweight approach shoes and my heavy mountaineering / glacier-slogging boots. They fit the bill perfectly. They're very comfortable, and stiff enough for crampon usage, but with just enough give around the ball of the foot to make them reasonable to hike in.
I've used these to scramble easy rock, kick steps, wear crampons, and also to provide support on a backpacking trip with my girlfriend where my packload was particularly heavy.
If you think you want the La Sportiva Trango S EVO boot, consider this boot. It is on par with that boot, just with less marketing hype.
My one beef is that the rubber rand is not continuous around the entire circumference of the upper, leaving a gap on the outside of the foot for a few inches. No biggie, however, and it saves ounces.
