Comments about REI Cargo Gym Bag:
This bag serves its advertised purpose PERFECTLY.
It quickly becomes clear that every aspect of the bag was designed to be completely functional and specific for the daily gym-goer.
I use the gym 5 days a week, and have used a large, clumsy duffle bag with one large, 2 side/small, and 1 side compartment for the past 4 years. I have had to pack used, sweaty clothes with new, always struggled to find my headphones or iPod at the bottom of the small compartments, and toiletries have never really sat easily in my old bag.
THIS bag, however, is all about function in its design. The shoe compartment bellows into the main compartment just enough without compromising space, and is just as well ventilated as a front pouch for putting sweaty gym clothes. There are two small side compartments PERFECT for my headphones, iPod, and weight gloves, plus my glasses case on the other side. There is even a little clip in one of the pockets for your keys!
They have even thought out putting a loop at the top of the bag so you can hang the bag, rather than cram it into the locker. And speaking of cramming, the narrow profile is PERFECT for the typical, narrow lockers you find at gyms.
There are also ample cargo net pockets situated throughout this bag to allow one to securely tuck away deodorant, hair gel, or shampoo where it won't roll away or get lost amidst towels and clothes.
Another well thought out detail is how the shoulder strap is anchored towards one side of the bag, rather than in the middle, so that carrying becomes comfortable and well aligned.
The beauty is in the details, and this bag has it all. It is a fabulous gym bag that allows me to bring everything I need and organize everything in an orderly fashion.

Comments about REI Cargo Gym Bag:
I use this bag almost every day, whether it is carrying everything I need during the week (gym clothes, sneakers, work papers, books, water bottles, etc.) or when I get away on a weekend (hiking clothes/boots/rain gear or travel clothes/shoes).
The bag has lots of pockets, including one zip and two mesh pockets on the inside of the main compartment, in addition to the two end and two side pockets. The mesh sections of the end pockets are especially useful for drying out my sneakers or hiking boots or giving damp exercise clothes some air so they don't get all stinky. Another great feature is that the shoulder strap adjusts to a very short length, which actually fits my short torso. I've tried so many gym bags that have long straps fit for men with long torsos, but this bag sits perfectly at my waist instead of banging me in the hip/thigh while I'm walking.
I am always amazed at just how much stuff will fit in the bag - I have carried 2 pair of pants, a few tops, sweater, underwear, socks, shoes, toiletries, a liter water bottle, a magazine and book all together! My only (minor) complaint is that there are no double zippers, so the pockets only open from one end. But the horseshoe (u-shaped) double zipper on the top of the main compartment really helps to get the bag closed if filled to capacity. And it's still small enough to easily fit in my gym locker. This is a really fantastic bag!

Comments about REI Cargo Gym Bag:
I do really like this bag, but more for an overnight/weekend bag than for a daily-use gym bag. It's simply too big! I live in a big-city, so do not keep my gym bag in a car. Rather, I carry it everywhere with me and walk around quite a bit with it. This bag is just too big; I have plenty of leftover space and it makes it awkward to carry.
Not a complaint that I thought I'd be making!
Overall, it is a really great bag with nice features, good quality, etc. If you want a bag with a LOT of space, or if you are mainly going to keep it in your car, I think it would be great.

Comments about REI Cargo Gym Bag:
I love the structure and well designed pockets for shoes and wet items. I use it at the pool and it holds my work clothes and work out clothes plus my size 13 shoes without getting anything wet or dirty that isn't already one or the other.

Comments about REI Cargo Gym Bag:
Needed a new gym bag and found this one on sale on-line. Checked it out at the store (it looks much better in person - the pictures online make it look shinier than it is) and really liked it. It's the perfect size for my lunch hour+ forays to the gym. Holds shoes, workout clothes (winter or summer), toiletries and towel with some room to spare. Has 5 pockets for organizing things. Fits easily into a locker. Quality is great - I've been impressed with most of the REI brand stuff I've picked up. We'll see how it holds up, but so far, so good!

Comments about REI Cargo Gym Bag:
I absolutely LOVE this bag as a gym bag. It has vented pockets for my wet swimming trunks and gym shoes. My size 9.5 sneakers just fit into the side pocket; I kind of wish it was a bit bigger but hey, as long as they fit. Inside the bag, I usually carry (all at the same time):
Sweat pants
Sneakers
Sweat shirt
2 t-shirts
Shorts
Socks
Swim trunks
Water bottle
With all of that, I still have a bunch of leftover space. Best of all, it fits perfectly into a locker, and has a nice strap to hang from. All in all, it might be a bit more expensive than some other bags, but you definitely get what you pay for. I'm glad I sprung for it!

Comments about REI Cargo Gym Bag:
This bag is actually quite large, and I only go to the gym a few times a week. I use it only when I know I will be showering and doing my makeup at the gym and have to carry everything in the bag. Otherwise, I revert to my smaller gym bag for quick trips after work.
I do like the small details put into the bag, like the numerous pockets for my hair products, and the little noose to hang it inside the gym locker. The shoulder strap is pretty comfortable and adjusts easily.
The bag would be just perfect if it had better color options! I really hate the dark green. It would be perfect in a silver hue, dark purple, or baby blue (clearly I am female).

Comments about REI Cargo Gym Bag:
Nice quality, surprisingly roomy, plenty of storage spaces. The wide, stiff bottom makes it tough to tuck into a narrow space, like behind a car seat - but it's the perfect gym locker bag.
