Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack - Women's:
Europe whirlwind: 8 days in Ireland by metro, car to B&Bs, 8 days in Spain by bus, train, & taxi to hotels. This pack was the best choice for the space, fit, and money. Tuck away the straps and carry it with the side handle in the airport, then break out the straps for getting around town. Good internal design w/ clothing straps and mesh side pockets. Do not attach the daypack & carry it, or you'll be miserable. I just carried the daypack on my front, much better balance. The daypack pockets are just big enough for a small water bottle--could be bigger. There is only one pocket inside, for a magazine. Would like another internal pocket, as I carried it daily as my purse/camera bag.
Overall, for my first travel packback, this is a great pack. I don't think there were any better choices, and I would recommend it to others.
(Tips: 1.Put a small carabiner through zipper pulls on the daypack for extra security wearing it around town--harder to get into. 2. Take a packable bag (Kiva). I used the daypack as a carry-on for the departure flights, but zipped it on the pack with my "loot" for the trip home and checked it as one bag, using the Kiva bag as my carry-on.)

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack - Women's:
I spent 10 days in Ireland and this bag was perfect. I kept the main pack at the hostel (I took a bike lock to secure it to the bed or other secure place) while I took the daypack with me. It has all the bells and whistles that made it comfortable and convenient for trip. I originally didn't want to spend that much money, but it was definitely worth it!

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack - Women's:
This is my first pack and I've been using it for a year. I've used it for several travel trips ranging from weekend trips to a 2.5 week trip, in the USA, Asia, and Europe. This is a great high quality pack for flexible and diverse situations. Has nice features like the ergonomic shoulder and hips straps, buckle compression straps, and zipper attached day pack.
The day pack is a bit awkward to maneuver around with when it's attached to the main pack, as the others reviews mention, since the day pack doesn't have compression straps itself and can stick out a lot. It hasn't been anything I can't handle though, but it could probably work just as well to have a regular pack and use a small drawstring backpack for daytrips instead. However, the daypack fits my laptop very nicely when I travel with it because it has this great inner pocket. I bought a cushioned laptop sleeve separately that I slip my laptop into, then slide it into the inner pocket in the daypack and it's perfectly protected. I use the daypack as a laptop backpack when I go to a cafe or out to the pool where I can get wireless connections. Daypack also has a good variety of pockets and compartments that really help in being organized for school/office stuff or those longer trips.
For trips on Southwest Airlines, I was able to take the pack on board as carryon luggage, putting the main pack in the overhead compartment and keeping my daypack with me, under the seat in front of me, which is super convenient because I hate checking luggage. On international flights, however, I still have had to check it. I don't have a shoulder strap for my pack, but I'm going to get one and I'm sure it will be a really nice addition.
Using a pack is so advantageous over using rolling luggage, not only around the world where sometimes you just have to deal with stairs or uneven pathways, but even in the USA where there are escalators and elevators galore, because you can zip by on stairs instead of having to wait for crowded escalators/elevators. Overall, this is a great pack!

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack - Women's:
I bought this pack for a recent trip to India. I used the day pack as carry-on, and checked the main pack (the zip-away suspension was nice in that regard). I found the suspension a bit difficult to cram into the zip-away area, though that may loosen up over time. When the pack is full, it can be awkward to hoist on and off, especially if adjusted for a shorter torso, so I used a shoulder strap coupled with the side-handle for quick exchanges like airport and in/out of taxis, buses, etc. Also, it is a bit awkward to wear as a backpack if the daypack is attached, so when I did wear the main pack on my back, I balanced it with the daypack on front of me.
Those are really just personal preferences... overall for this price-range this is a great, durable, sizeable bag with plenty of pockets and lots of space. I loved it. The only thing that bugged me was the lack of a way to carry a sleeping pad on the outside of the bag. I carried mine in the sleeping bag compartment, but straps would have been nice.
This bag was beat up, dirtied, thrown around and scuffed up and it still looks like it's barely been used. I'm going to have this puppy for a long time and use it well. Recommended!
