Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:
Solid, quality construction at a good price. Many good design features. A few minor gripes, though.
My main compaint with this pack is that if you fill the main pack AND the attached daypack, you have to lean forward at a pretty severe angle to keep from being pulled over backwards, i.e., due to the extreme combined depth of the pack. On my first trip, I left the daypack at home and used a different, detached daypack. In short, the daypack is not of much use in its attached position.
Also, the main pack could use a water bottle sleeve or two. The online description says that there is a one-liter water bottle side mesh pocket. I found a horizontally-oriented pocket at the very bottom of the pack. It doesn't seem very secure, due to its orientation, and whenever you put the pack down on a filthy floor, your water bottle would be right down there in the filth.
While a traveling backpacker should not need or use small exterior pockets on the pack (if leaving the pack in a hostel or checking it on an airline), it would be nice to have maybe one or two of these. As it is, there are none. I suppose the daypack serves this purpose, but if you leave the daypack behind, you have no such pockets for tickets or small items you want to keep handy.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:
This pack is great. It holds enough for over a week's worth of clean clothes, or has extra space if you are packing lighter. The main draw backs and reasons I didn't give 5 stars are that it is just a hair bigger than most carry on allowances and the day pack could use more comfortable straps and better organizational pockets. Even with these taken into account I'd buy it again. I bought one for my wife and myself, my sister also ordered on based on my recommendation. We all love it.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:
I took this backpack (2006 model) to go backpacking through Europe. It was the perfect backpack. I could fit everything into this backpack. It has a travel daypack that detaches and saved my life because it has a camelback slot built in (although you have to purchase the bladder). I used it for over 6 weeks in Europe and never had a complaint. I know I will use it again when I travel. This is NOT a good hiking backpack though.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:
This pack was a great purchase! it has enough pockets to store all of your belongings and even has a place to put a sleeping bag (which is crucial if you are travelling all over europe!). The straps and padding are adequate, though i saw other packs with much better padding. the great thing about this pack is that even though it is a great all around backpacker's pack, it's not as fancy as some other packs which is great because its less likely to get noticed and stolen!
Overall, a great backpack...super durable and the detachable daypack is a huge plus! I would recommend this backpack DEFINATELY!!!

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:
Because the backpack straps are cented to close, it makes the pack sway side to side very easy. making iot hard to move in a cramped area of people

Just got back from 2 weeks in Europe. Awesome bag, but just a bit too long to convince some airlines to allow carry-on.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:
This thing is WAY too short. I couldn't release the straps enough to put the weight on my hips. I couldn't use the sternum strap at all because it choked my throat. (I'm not a tall or big guy -- 5' 11", 160 lbs.)
Also I looked pretty silly in the New Delhi airport trying for several minutes to hoist it onto my back. The weight balance is WAY to high and rear-ward. With the day-pack loaded and zipped on, I could not get the thing onto my back. I had to remove the day-pack and carry it separately.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:
I have the 2006 version and it came in quite handy when I went to Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Europe. It was exactly what was needed when running around trying to find things, catching trains, buses, and planes. The day pack attachement is great since it can go anywhere with you and it also can be adapted for a camelbak. The bottom portion can be used to separate your things.
Overall you get a great product without spending much more for fancy things that you will most likely not use.
