Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
I’ve been using the Moab hiker for about one year and have found them to be great hiking on moderate trails without much downhill hiking. They have good traction, the soles are stiff enough for rock hopping and are terrific in warm, dry weather.
However, I just came back from hiking the Kalalau trail on Kauai, Hawaii wearing the Moab boot which I thought would be perfect for the weather there. I hiked 13 miles roundtrip on rocky, steep up and down terrain for most of the trail. By the end of the hike, my toes were injured, the toenails on both my big toes were separated from the nail bed and another toenail is totally black and blue. I read the reviews of others that have injured their toes wearing these hiking shoes and I have to concur. These boots are not made for hiking trails with a lot of rocky, downhill terrain.

Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
Ok--I've owned Adidas hiking boots in the past which have been great, but after moving West and doing a great deal of hiking, it was time to replace my worn out hikers. I chose a Merrell hiking shoe which proved to be fine except that it provided little support for my ankles and after a recent bad fall and one of the worst bruises I have ever had on the back of my thigh, I decided to look for a cool light weight hiker for hiking in these 100 degree plus summers with better traction. This led me to the Moab. After reading the 11 reviews--of which were mostly positive, I threw out the negative remark of which I should not have. I wear an 8.5 usually, but buy my hikers in 9 to accomodate for the thicker hiking socks I wear. I follow Merrell's rule-of-thumb that you should be able to put a finger in the back of the shoe for proper fit. While the first moderate hike of 4.6 miles in the Moab with up and down rock climbing proved to be fine--the boots performed great--fantastic traction and great comfort, the hike the next day on a moderate trail with little down hill rock climbing of approximately 6 miles was not so great. My feet were terribly sore immediately at the end of the hike and upon taking off the boots my feet were blistered and as described in the negative review on this site--my big toes were bruised. Even after a week, they are still bruised and hurting at the nails. I have never had this experience before from wearing any shoe. I have narrow feet and have no difficulty in my shoe fittings. I run roughly 5 miles a day with no problems in my New Balance running shoes and so today, I'll be seeking a pair of New Balance hikers.

Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
I bought this one to get better ankle support and to replace my worn out day hiking shoes of a REI brand. I usually hike couple of times a week and trail length about 10 to 17 miles each time. I bought this pair because it was the only one felt comfortable around my ankle when I tried the shoes in REI store.
The first time I wear this pair, the trail was moderately steep, 2000ft elevation gain in 2 miles. It felt great when I was going uphill. But after down hill, the shoes squeezed my feet too much that after 2 months, my big toes are still in purple color. This was after I cut my toe nails very short before the hike and tied the shoe laces as tight as possible near the ankle. I also bought the shoes size 8. My usual shoe size is 7 or 7.5.
Later, I went back to REI and exchanged to a 8.5 size pair. The store assistant showed me how to tight the shoe laces from the start of the lacing area to keep my feet slipping down on a down slope. Well, I tried his technique the next weekend on a 16 mile hike with moderately steep trail. After 4 hours hike, my whole feet were hurt due to the tightness of the laces, and still, my toes pressed to the tip of the shoes when going down hill and got hurt again. I do wear heavy hiking socks on my hikes.
Also my feet felt very hot after more than 2 hours on trails every time. But I usually have hot feet anyway.
The summarize, it's a good pair of shoes if the trails are moderately flat. But be careful when you wear it for extended time on down slope.

Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
This shoe is awesome. I have very bad feet and tend to get blisters easily. I bought this shoe for day hikes and I must say, these are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I also bought a pair of montrail enduro-soles that I found when doing an online search for "hiking insoles". These insoles made the shoes even more comfortable than before. I definitely recommend this shoe!

I have used these boots for casual daily wear, to hike to the top of the Tetons and to backcountry camp with a 30 pound pack. In all situations they have been comfortable and I have never gotten a blister. They have taken me on at least 200 miles of trails and are still in excellent shape. Any shoe I have owned by Merrell has been amazing quality and comfort, this shoe included.

These are the most comfortable hiking boots I've ever worn. They are not in the least waterproof, but are great for the summer. I wear them off trail with a 35 pound pack and have no issues.

This shoe has very poor traction, it caused my foot injury due to poor traction and fell. After it happened, I realized the bottom rear sole is rather flat therefore with little grabbing power.

I wear the shoes again today on a 14 mile hike. 3 miles moderately steep trails and flat for the rest.
After 8 miles, my left ankle hurts. It was also hurt last week on a 14 mile hike on more demanding trail. By the time I finished hike, there was a swollen area on my ankle the size of a bird egg. It's very tender when it was touched.
My feet felt very hot and wet after 6 miles.

Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
I bought these boots while on a business trip and from the moment I put them on I was in heaven. They did run a little small, but they have to be the most comfortable pair of shoes EVER. As a police officer I'm on my feet anywhere from 12 to 18 hours a day. My only wish is that these boots came in all black (and a bit taller) so I could wear them to work! These shoes were more conducive to sightseeing and wandering Cannon Beach in the rain and playing in the ocean than a pair of Sketchers! Also much nicer on the feet running through airports and on the 7 hour flight home to the east coast.
