The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
Wow havent had it a year and I now need to get a new boot, this one has already worn out. My feet feel every rock on the trail - good for light hiking if you want to buy a new boot once a year. I got new insoles from REI and still not enough cushion. I would consider Ive hike maybe 30 - 40 miles in them total.

I purchased my Vasque Mantra's on Tuesday, then headed for the Mt. Wilson Trail on the weekend...hiked round trip without any prior breaking in...the shoes are great! I'm VERY happy with them, no complaints at all. I've seen other reviews complaining about the lack of cushioning but again, I have no complaints, the cushioning feels just fine to me.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I've been a hiker and backpacker for over 30 years. I have always used mid-height all-leather boots because I liked the stability, but I decided to try a trail shoe for light hiking. I was a little hesitant to do this because I have put on some pounds in my later years and am a bit heavyset, but I have no regrets so far.
I've had these two weeks, including 4 days of hiking various terrain in Death Valley National Park. I found them comfortable and stable, with no problems at all with hotspots or blisters. At the end of hikes, I usually pull off my boots for more comfortable shoes, but I found myself choosing to keep these on. They aren't clunky and have a casual enough look that I was fine wearing them to restaurants for dinner.
The only down side I noticed: on a trail consisting entirely of large gravel, I did feel the rocks a little bit through the sole of the shoe. It wasn't uncomfortable, just different from what I am used to with a heavier boot.

I bought this show because I was looking for a good lightweight hiking shoe for summer. But the first time I tried it, I had to cut my hike short after only three miles on pretty easy terrain. It doesn't rub, and the shoe is comfortable, but it barely has any cushioning.
This shoe would probably be fine for city walking and light hiking, but not for much else.

I've used these boots for the last two months, once or twice a week, hiking 5-10 miles at a time, with elevation gains of about 500-1000 feet, on mixed trails. Some hikes lasted all day, and others for just a couple of hours.
These shoes are very stable with good grip on scree-filled, rocky trails. Usually, I'm terrified of slipping, but these shoes held fast, even on the steeper, narrower trails, so that I actually began to feel confident about uphill climbs.
The other notable feature is the excellent arch support; I fractured one of the metatarsals, so it tends to act up if the shoes I wear do not have enough support in the arch. These do, so no foot pain or swelling, even after hiking all day.
These have a large toe box, so they do not pinch my pinky or big toes, even after hiking all day. I did not feel the need to remove the shoes even after wearing them for 8 hours or so.
One can feel the ground's texture underfoot somewhat, but it's never affected my ability to continue hiking. I wore these right out of the box, and have not had any problems with hotspots or blisters.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I love my Vasque Mantra Cross-Training Shoes, and am finally buying replacements for the two pairs I've owned since 2007.
I travel long term in third world countries. and these are the only shoes I wear every day, since I will not risk foot injuries with sandals. I alternate between pairs, allowing each to dry/air out after a day of walking. They've been on city, country, and hilly day-hikes up to 12 hours all over SE Asia, as well as the US and Europe.
Never depending on factory-installed insoles, I opt instead for Superfeet, and the combination is perfect.

They were perfect once I got some custom insoles in them. Wear them daily to work and walk an average of 3-5 miles per day.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
So far I have used this shoe for some short hikes (2-3hrs) over rocky terrain and all day field research. They provided good traction while I scrambled over big rocks in the desert and were still comfortable after a hot day in the field (I tend to blisters). The upper leather looked worn pretty quickly which I didn't like. I have a wide foot and they feel a little narrow. (Normally I'm a 6.5, this shoe I got in a 7, I'm thinking b/c of the width). With a normal/narrow foot they should be true to size though, coz they're a bit long for my feet.
