Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's Extended Sizes:
It's hard to beat the REI Brand especially when you compare items like these shorts to more expensive "name" brands. I liked them so much after an extended day hike through some unforgiving brush and steep grades that I bought 3 more pair.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's Extended Sizes:
Great warm weather short. Breathable and light weight. Packable. I use them to do just about everything in from mowing the lawn to Downhill Mountainbiking, they're that good.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's Extended Sizes:
I love these pants as long as I am not wearing them in my kitchen. The cargo pockets tend to catch on the cabinet knobs. This happens a lot - multiple times per day - and it can tear the seams and break the cabinet doors. This seems trivial but it drives me nuts. If you have cabinet knobs at the height of your quads, watch out.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's Extended Sizes:
I purchased my first pair of Sahara shorts many years ago, off a clearance rack of all places in the back of the men's section. Little did I know, I was about to find the best shorts I had ever worn, and my choice for future purchases.
I purchased 3 pairs in preparation for a backpacking trip along the Pacific Northwest Trail. I trained in them for several months, and was absolutely flabergasted at how durable the material was, how light and breathable the "important areas" were, and how moisture was repelled in all conditions. Those three pairs of shorts are still in my drawer, MANY years later. While they have faded slightly, I keep them around for dingy days.
I purchase a new set every year or two, and they last the entire time, with no staining, tearing, zipper malfunction or buckle-breaking.
My only wish is that the color production would expand. Maybe it's just timing, but I often find only a handful of colors, but not the one or two I am looking for. No biggy...I'll keep buying them.
FWIW, I purchased the cut-off pants as well, and they are just a durable, with all the same qualities. They are not quite as "casual" looking as the shorts, so I wouldn't wear them to a casual dress function, unlike the shorts (when appropriate) which work fine for summer evening situations.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's Extended Sizes:
The Sahara shorts are great and I even found a color other than black! REI has failed to produce a quality mountain bike short, so try the Sahara shorts over their extended size lycra cycling shorts. Finally, I can cycle and have pockets!
