Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
Fantastic shorts. They dry fast even after getting completely soaked, they are light weight yet aren't flimsy and the zipper on the right cargo pocket is a nice feature. The cell phone pocket in the left cargo pocket is well designed. It has held my cell phone, a blackberry and a point and shoot camera. Each item felt secure in the pocket despite their varying sizes yet were easy to remove from the pocket as well.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
Lightweight and comfortable, best shorts I have owned. (the original cut version, anyway)
Get 'em wet and they dry almost instantly, so great around the beach or in bad weather.
Only complaint I have is that in the 2007 version, they are cut too long. Hoping to convince REI that they had it right the first time.
Otherwise, will be looking elsewhere.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
These shorts are some of the best active shorts I have owned. They are light weight, comfortable, and durable. I have worn these every where, dive trips, hiking, and just around. The only negative is the plastic belt buckle clangs against the dryer.
I highly recommend these shorts for anyone looking for a lightweight short that is considerably less expensive than other name brands.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
Good material, breathes well, dries quickly. Fairly durable at least for my older pair (though the stitching on the pair I bought this year started coming apart, and I already had to exchange them). Disappointed in what seems like a longer leg cut, which puts the thigh pockets slightly lower. Plus, the pockets seem to be more to the front of the thigh than the side. So, carrying any cargo in these cargo pockets, even just the weight of my Ipod or wallet, causes the pockets to pendulum / swing and bang against my thighs if I'm walking at more than a stroll. It's not bad enough for me to return them, but I will likely buy a different brand in the future.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
I bought two pairs this last summer. On a backpack/camping trip, one of the zippers froze up. Accidents happen so I took it back to REI. They replaced the one bad pair and I have not had a problem with any of them since. I'm here today to order a couple more pair.
I use them for all sorts of actvities, including as swimming trunks. Sometimes the loose fit that I like gets in the way while doing Yoga, but I still use them for that as well.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
Very versatile shorts. Can be used from a day in the park to a week in the Sierras. Lightweight, quick drying, and comfortable. Easy to move around in. Also own the zip-offs and love them too.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
I'm a little disappointed. I bought a pair of REI Sahara shorts several years ago and fell in love with the shorts. They were durable, comfortable, useful and well designed. I use them for everything; hiking, casual wear, kayaking, etc. I especially found them useful for kayaking since they dried quickly and had cargo pockets.
My old pair finally died and I decided to get another pair. I didn't realize they changed. There is no mesh lining. The front pockets are not as deep as the original. There is no mesh in the front pockets to let dirt to fall through and things to dry. The change pocket doesn't have the handy pull tab. The feel of the fabric is not as soft. And even though I ordered the same size as my original pair of shorts, the new ones were much smaller; didn't sit on the hips well; the crotch and seat area were tighter; and the length was shorter.
If you are a loyal and long-time consumer of REI, be warned that these are not the same old and reliable shorts.

only shorts I wear outside of the gym - bit pricey, so best if you watch for sale

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
Great lightweight shorts with tonnes of pockets.
The right thigh pocket has a zip which I think is rather pointless as carrying coins or keys in it make the leg swing. I would have liked to see a second pocket in the right hip pocket for this purpose.

Comments about REI Sahara Shorts - Men's:
I wear these shorts almost everywhere. They're great. They're very lightweight and super comfortable. The pockets are great, too. One of the pockets has a zipper and the other is hook/loop closure, so I can securely carry things that would easily fall out (like keys) and I can carry things I need to access quickly (like a map).
