Quick-drying Supplex® nylon is soft, lightweight, durable and wrinkle-resistant
Fabric provides UPF 50+ sun protection, shielding skin from harmful ultraviolet rays
Hand pockets with key/coin pocket; two cargo pocekts and back pockets with rip-and-stick closures
Left cargo pocket has separate cell phone pocket for convenience; right cargo pocket has a zippered closure for extra security
Both cargo pockets have grommet holes for drainage
Elastic waist with built-in nylon webbing belt for a secure fit

After searching for convertible pants long enough for my 6 foot 6 frame I was delighted to find these. They worked great shedding water and snow while downhill skiing with a pair of thermal underwear to add warmth and then performed equally well on a trip to Hawaii where I put the convertible feature to the test. Finally they held up well on a two day camping trip in Northern Michigan where the weather was around 40 degrees with a persistent rain. They shed the rain well, held up to the mud, and after a quick wash looked good as new for my next adventure.

Only complaint: lose the integrated belt and add belt loops, this would allow me to carry accessories that require the belt to be threaded through them. These pants allow no way to get the belt out without without cutting off one end of it and re-stitching it.

With so few belt loops, carrying anything on belt makes the trousers feel heavy and uncomfortable. Even Levis have seven loops! Insufficient cover for zippers on removeable pant legs causes snags on leg folient when walking. Label one or the other removeables with an R or an L to save the wearer some time.

Very comfortable, lightweight pants. the convertible zipper area does not chafe like many convertible pants.Easy to clean in cold water and fast drying. Very lightweight for packing. Easy to remove and restore bottom legs. The side zippers are a plus when removing/restoring over hiking boots. Using a waist pack is comfortable over the integrated belt.Velcro closures add security to back and side pockets. one zippered pocket on side add additional security.Cons: I get tired of the "nylon" fabric feel after wearing all day.The front main pockets are really shallow so coins etc. fall out when you sit down. The wide belt loops and integrated thin belt make it hard to attach beltpack accessories. Washing will cause threads to loosen and may cause the pocket zipper to catch. Just check for loose threads before using. Another minus[...]

I have 2 pairs of these pants that I took to Yosemite for some day hikes. With the weather during the day in the upper 70's, lower 80's, these pants were a great option. I kept cool the entire time. Unzipping the legs was easy and uneventful (the addition of the zippered openings at the bottom of the legs is a great touch). I also enjoyed all the pocket room, including the zippered cargo pocket which made me feel safe with my keys and money.

When night came around, the weather did drop and the pants are not really geared to cooler weather, but no matter, we were done by then anyway.

Beyond hiking, these pants are great to wear around on nice days. They are very comfortable and if it does get real hot, just take the legs off! I do have to agree with one reviewer, however. With the legs off, the shorts are a little shorter than I like.

Waist on 34" size is too small, would help if they had some elastic. Pant legs are far too baggy - if more normal size the pants would weigh less.

My husband has carefully worn the same pair for several years both on day hikes and multi-day backpacking trips. They still look good, though the shorts are starting to fade and now look slightly different than the legs.

My teenage son is currently wearing his 3rd & 4th pairs. (Pair #2 had to be replaced due to a faulty zipper; love the easy return policy at REI.) He wears the pants everywhere and is not as careful as his dad. They definitely show their wear ~ stitches coming out, pocket worn through, pair #3 has a new hole in the backside. However, we will buy a 5th pair soon. He will wear them all summer ~ hiking, camping, herping, traveling, anywhere.

These pants have a great fit, and are my choice for casual wear all the time. I have worn them for many years, basically since REI first came out with them. Over the years, the quality of materials have gone downhill. I have brand new pants that the velcro no longer works, mesh pockets rip, zippers malfunction. Because of this I will not buy them anymore. Sure I can take them back and exchange, but why waste my time when I can find a better quality product.

I've had 2 pair of these pants for years now. I always take them on vacations. They've been to Israel, Italy, Alaska, Canada, Caribbean, on cruise ships, mountain hikes, airports, and fancy restaurants. Been on every motorcycle trip I've taken in past 10 years. They don't wrinkle easily and they dry quickly. Easy to pack and very lightweight. Easy to wash and have lots of pockets. Two cons: they do not breathe as easily as cotton. You will notice it like I did in the Negev desert of Israel where it reached 115 degrees when I was at the Dead Sea. Also, they lack the ability to use my own belt so it is difficult to attach some clips to the belt. The belt is too thin and flimsy and it is permanently attached so you cannot use your own belt.

These are awesome pants. They fit well and have lots of great features. Very durable. I wear them while traveling and they are very stain resistant and can be washed in the sink and dry over night. They are great in all but very hot or very cold weather.

Plenty of pockets for sunglasses, wallet, glasses, knife, etc. Very lightweight, versatile and comfortable. Zippers function well. Important to have zips on legs to get legs over boots when converting to shorts. Easy to wash Nepali style. Dries quickly. Lived in these, slept in them and worked for four months in Nepal. Still wear them at home they are so comfortable and indestructable.
