I have a pair of Mojave pants that I love and have used constantly. The Sahara just don't compare at all. They are a problem because they don't breathe at all. So I rarely wear them as pants and usually only as shorts.

Bought these pants when I suddenly realized I love hiking. And I love hiking even more with these pants! Great movement, breathable, and multi season! They dry super quick, if the water gets in them at all, and they are super light. They also helped reduce what we like to call "fat-man rash." If your fat, you know what I mean. I take these pants every time I go hiking now.

I have had a couple of these for a long time. Finally put a hole in one of 'em. Best to laze around or go hiking in on a Sunday afternoon. Durable with plenty of pockets to store everything.

I like the REI Sahara convertible pants, however, the mesh in the pocket soon rips out AND the pleats in the pockets themselves are constantly catching on things and tearing. Examples-Inside: knobs on cupboards; Outside: branches, when you are going through the woods. A flat pocket would be much more practical.

The zipper caught and broke the second time the pants were worn...bad news when you are on safari in the middle of nowhere! Disappointed with the craftsmanship. Zippers are important!

I wear these because the women's counterpart (in any brand) is too fitted in the legs. I am not trying to make a fashion statement while I am sweating it out on the trail or working in desert environments. I am a 5'10" female who often buys mens outdoor/technical clothing because women's clothing tends to be too short, or tailored or worse yet, fitted and this is just plain useless or dangerous as it cuts down on breathe-ability in 120-degree/100% humidity conditions. These mens' pants work well for women, although they are a bit long in the crotch, but that's to be expected for a women wearing men's pants.I occasionally zip off the legs and the shorts end just above my knee cap. I have never had a problem with the zippers on the shorts, but I am not much of a shorts person (I'd rather cover up than use sunscreen). When I do use the shorts, it's typically to go swimming (after/during a hike) and for this use, they work great, and dry almost instantly (in the desert).I have not had any the zipper problems that many report, and it sounds like that could be a real issue. I have had my first pair for 6 years and they have made it through all kids of abuse in the American southwest (where EVERY plant has spines or is otherwise unfriendly), as well as traveling. I just got my first rip in the cargo pocket and that was fixed easily using an iron-on patch (although you're not supposed to iron nylon, it worked perfectly). I bought my second pair 3 years ago and have been just as happy. These would work well for casual wear if they weren't constantly dirty from all the use they get. My dogs now know the sounds of the rustling nylon (a sound in the dog world that means "we're going hiking")and start getting excited from the moment I pull them out of the closet.Bottom line: the quality of the other brands may be a tad bit higher, but I wouldn't know: I've never bought them. The other brands don't go on sale nearly as much as the REI brand does (nor are they as cheap when they do), and I know I am going to beat the [*] out of these pants. I'd rather not pay twice as much for the honor of wearing the butt out of yet another pair of pants in the same amount of time!

I have emailed the company more then once about the size of the pockets. I sit down, change falls out, keys fall out, cell phone falls out. I also mentioned that the pants could benefit from an inside security pocket next to the regular pocket to help prevent pickpockets in certain areas of the world. I sent these emails two and four years ago. No results. Next time I will purchase another brand that has what I need. I have also had several zippers go bad.

I bought these pants for my month long vacation in Thailand and Cambodia. They really got their test in Cambodia. All the hiking, walking, and super hot humid weather i ran into never phased these pants one bit. Was great to have them as full pants in the morning and evening and shorts mid day. Hand washed them every couple days and i swear they dried out faster than my (fast drying) boxers.

Comfortable, with a good fit. As others have commented, I wish the inseam were an inch or two longer on the shorts. My bigger issue, however, is that the zipper on the lower leg section, which is great for getting the pants on or off with your boots on, stopped working after a handful of useges/washings making the "legs" marginally usable. A snap at the cuff would have been helpful so that the bottom wasn't flapping around.
