Comments about Mountain Hardwear Typhoon Jacket - Men's:
Let's see. What do I want out of the ideal rain shell?
1. Absolutely 100% waterproof. Check. You could wear this baby in the shower and stay dry. Gor-Tex + well designed zippers and hood = awesome.
2. Totally breathable. Check. That's what makes Gor-Tex so great...a $10 yellow rain jacket might be 100% waterproof, but take a short walk and notice that without breathability a jacket can become unbearably wet and hot. Now hike 10 miles. Good luck! This thing is like wearing a cotton T when it comes to breathability.
3. Extremely light weight, compact. Check. I can't stress the "compact-ability" enough- this thing can roll up so small it takes up practically no space and you'll hardly know it's there. All the mesh works wonders at reducing weight, although fleece-lined pockets might be the only addition I'd make to this jacket if it could be done without adding weight. Gone are the days when you have to contemplate whether or not you need to bring rain gear along... it takes up no space in the pack! This is what separates the Typhoon from the other Gor-Tex competition.
4. Durability. Check. I haven't absolutely battered this thing as I tend to only wear it when it's raining and I'm camping, but I have had it for at least 4 years now and it is still in like-new condition. MH makes a quality product and their other jackets have also held up very well for me.
5. Quality design, excellent fit and comfort. Check! This is another strong point for MH. I'm sure this is variable, but their jackets and vests seem to fit my body type very well. Great movement and flexibility, excellent comfort and fit. My Typhoon's sleeves are cut a little long (see the picture with the model!), but they shorten by 1-2" when the velcro is done up around the wrists, which is how it should be worn in the rain. All in all it fits exceptionally well and is one of the more comfortable jackets I've worn. The fit of the hood is particularly nice, it does not limit visibility while providing maximum protection, and is easy to adjust as well! The bill on the hood really keeps your face dry and is a very nice touch. The under-arm zippers are also great for venting heat and don't seem to let much water in at all.
Overall: I wouldn't buy this jacket as a substitute for an umbrella or for casual everyday use. You'd be paying for features that you're not going to use. Also, as a shell it is very minimal and needs to be worn with another long-sleeve shirt or jacket underneath for comfort (the inside isn't exactly "soft") and/or insulation. Since your base layers can be changed readily, the Typhoon works in just about any temperature where rainfall is still possible. All in all, if you want the best waterproof backpacking shell that money can buy, the Typhoon is a great choice.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Typhoon Jacket - Men's:
This is a great jacket, super light and gore-tex is, well, gore-tex. The Typhoon is cut tight, it works better as a high activity shell than something you're gonna put a bunch of layers under.
My only complain is that it is a bit short in the torso, which is fine when climbing with only a baselayer but when laying another inch or two would have been nice. Overall solid jacket though.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Typhoon Jacket - Men's:
This is the best jacket I have ever owned for being waterproof and breathable. Lets face it, some breathable jackets simply don't work. This is not one of them. I can walk briskly outside without soaking myself with this jacket. Perfect for all types of foul weather from light mist to a driving storm. Perfect for your day pack as it packs down very small. My only complaint is that I wish it were a bit longer, but I can deal with it as is. A bit pricey, but it's well worth it. Add a fleece liner for an unbeatable winter combination!

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Typhoon Jacket - Men's:
This is my third hard shell that i have bought from rei, and i do not feel as tho it performed as well as it should for the price. My first two hard shell jackets were not gortex and did not hold water out, so when i finally bought this jacket and i thought it was going to be the last one i would need for awhile. I took the jacket on a 2 hour hike in the woods through a heavy down poor and it held up very well. After inspecting it when i got back i couldn't find any moister inside. A few weeks later while sitting around a campfire in light rain i felt as tho my back was getting a little wet, and sure enough when i went inside to check the jacket there was a lot of moister on the inside of the jacket. After that i returned the jacket, for the price i feel that no water should get through the shell. I found the mountain hardware xenon jacket on sale and in my size so i decided i would try it out. After reading a lot of reviews i feel this may be the one. Be careful when buying products from rei, sometimes they carry products that don't live up to the standards that you would expect for the price tag, and with a majority of the staff that really doesn't know a whole lot of the products it can be easy to buy the wrong thing.

This is a great jacket. I haven't had it long enough to comment on the durability. But it's performed great and kept me dry and cool during some pretty intense activity in the rain.
One of the best features is how well it compresses. Great for stuffing in a pack.
Sleeves do feel a bit long, but if that's it, I'll take it!

Great jacket. A little pricey for what you get. Only con for me is when the hood is rolled up it feels like a horse collar and it's too rigid on your neck. Otherwise worth it.
