Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I always have this sleeping bag, along with a few other bare essentials, with me in my car. This bag takes up hardly any space and has come in handy more times than I have digits to count on. It is highly portable and very warm, plus the zipper flexibility allows you to stick your feet out if you are too hot or just lay inside it on summer nights. This bag is so soft that I hardly need a sleep mat.

i am cold in this bag almost every time i use it. if the temp dips into the 40's i wake up shivering. the zipper snags every single time i zip it up. also, after only one year of use the insulation seems to be losing it's loft, even though i store it in the large storage bag.

I have used this bag on the nights where the temps was in the mid 20s. I had a thin base layer while sleeping and was very warm. Great bag for the price! Most of the time this bag will be on sale at end of the year.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I've used this bag a couple more times [...] with mixed results. In both uses I wore REI medium weight MTS long johns, thermolite sock liners, wool socks and a knit cap. During both uses I slept with the bag on a Thermarest Basecamp self-inflating sleeping pad with a 6.2 R-Value (whatever that is). During both uses the overnight low temperature was 28 degrees. In one use, I slept on the ground in a backpacking sized dome tent and was perfectly comfortable. This was how I slept back in October. In the other use, I slept on a cot in a family sized dome tent and woke up an hour or two before daylight with blocks of ice for feet. Since the highs in the days during all my uses (including October) were above 50 degrees, I believe that I was warmed slightly from heat radiating from the ground or chilled from airflow around the cot. Will probably exchange this bag for the Snowshoe and give it a try.

This is a wonderful bag. The price is right for the comfort. If anything this bag is a little to warm for summer. 30-50deg. nights work best but that's just me. It stuffs small and I like the compression straps of the stuff-sack. I'm comfortable taking it on a multi-day trip with temps dipping below freezing. If your cold in this bag then I'd suggest buying a better sleeping pad.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
The Meow is built well. I especially like the watch pocket, pillow pocket, and hood drawcords with different cord types, one flat another round so you can tell the difference in the dark. The fabric is reasonably water resistant so morning dew isn't much of an issue, nor is condensation from your breath. The draft tube is great, especially around the face opening. I like the bag, except for one problem, mine didn't keep me warm below 35F. My head was fine, torso ok, but my legs were freezing! Upon inspection, the insulation seems to be a bit light around the leg area. On the surface this may seem ok because ones legs tend to be less sensitive to cold; however, your blood has to run through your legs to get to your feet. In addition to cold legs I hate cold feet. I took mine back and got a TNF Orion on sale. It's lighter and warmer. I like it much better.

This was a great bag. This past summer was spent in Yellowstone and this bag was perfect. Was warm on the cold nights and on the warmer nights just unzip it a bit and BAM; Perfect.

Bought this bag for my son for scouting. His troop camps year round and usually has a couple campouts with overnight lows in the low 30s. Tested it out myself last night because I need one too. Here's some data. I'm 5'9" & weigh 190. The bedtime temp was 51 and dropped to a low of 39 overnight, no rain, about 38% humidity. I wore cotton briefs & t-shirt, REI medium weight MTS long johns, thermolite sock liners and wool socks. Bag started out a little too warm and had to leave it unzipped down to my waist. Woke up cold after an hour or so of sleep and zipped up. Slept comfortably overnight. Woke up in the morning with a low temp of 39 and pulled the hood and draft tube tight and snoozed another hour. Can't say the bag was real toasty when I woke up but it was comfortable. Found that if you pull the bag taught by spreding your arms, it packs down and insulates less efficiently (got cold spots if I let my elbows push against the bag and held them there). My very first experience with a mummy bag and didn't have any claustrophobic issues. Did not have a lot of room but could move my arms freely around my body. However, I am large enough that zipping up was awkward and I had to be careful not to snag it. My much smaller son had no problems at all with the zipper. It's a good bag and I'll be going back to buy a second. Will be trying the long to see if the extra girth is noticeably more comfortable though.

I took this sleeping bag on a winter camping trip and it kept me really warm. I didn't want to buy an extra bag for winter b/c I only go a couple times during the winter. It was very comfortable and I loved how easy it was for me to get a good night sleep in it. I also slept with a hot water bottle that was inside a foam padded tote/caddy that made the sleeping bag felt perfect when it was snowing hard outside of the tent.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
Don't understand what all the fuss is about - this is a rather ordinary bag that's just not very warm if you're a cold sleeper. My husband complained about it, so we switched bags. Even with a silk liner, I had a hard time keeping warm during an early spring overnight in Shenandoah NP. Needless to say, I was happy to get my REI Downtime back the next evening! We have absolutely no idea why this bag is so beloved and wins awards.
