Comments about REI Polar Pod +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I purchased this sleeping bag for an eleven-day trek around the western portion of Colorado, from the San Luis Valley up to Dinosaur National Monument and finally into Rocky Mountain National Park. Nightly Temperatures ranged from around 25 degrees Farenheit (in Rocky) up to the low 50's in Dinosaur.
First, the pros:
The bag stores extremely well. It comes with a stuff sack, but can be fit in a smaller size sack or reduced in size with compression straps, so it fits well at the bottom of a backpack and doesn't take up too much space. The synthetic fill allows it to keep it's warmth when wet. The hood is very spacious, but can be pulled down tight with the drawstrings, and the bag has an excellent pillow sleeve for a camping pillow or extra clothing.
Cons:
Overall this bag is a bit heavy for longer trekking as compared to both down bags and synthetic bags of similar temperature ratings. The fit is very tight around the legs, which doesn't allow for a lot of tossing and turning if you're an active sleeper. Additionally, I found that the bag didn't really live up to its temperature rating... it is rated to 20 degrees Farenheit, but even ten to twelve degrees above that I found I had to wear my cold-weather Under Armor and several fleece layers to stay warm.
I ultimately returned the bag for a Mountain Hardwear bag that has lived up to it's temp. rating. The Polar Pod is a decent bag, especially for the price, and I would definitely recommend it for casual car campers, beginning backpackers, or summer campers who sleep cold. I posit that the actual temperature rating of this bag is closer to 35 degrees.

Bought this badboy hoping for good warmth and features at a low price. The features are there, but I found the temperature rating to be lacking. I was uncomfortable (cold) at 40 degrees. if you are looking for a 20 degree bag, I'd keep researching.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I bought this bag before driving from TN to Seattle, WA in January. I was moving and didn't want to pay for hotels at night so I bought my polar pod and slept in my truck. I was warm everynight with just a t-shirt and light sweatpants on all night everynight even through a cold nights in South Dakota and a snow storm in western Montana that the temp in my truck was in the teens, granted I wasn't in a tent so there was no wind or moisture involved. When I arrived in WA I was staying at my girlfriends house on the couch until I got an apartment and she stole it from me as the heat vent in her bedroom was not working and it would get down in the 40's in her room. I was lucky to get it back she liked it so much. I will be using it this spring summer and fall for backpacking and I am excited about using this bag at the end of a long day.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
Among synthetic bags, this is a great 3 season bag. While one pound heavier than a North Face Cat's Meow, this is a durable bag that stuffs well and is eminently packable.
I have several bags for use in a variety of conditions. Especially when hiking with a bivy, I prefer synthetic because of its capacity to retain warmth even when damp. This is not the lightest synthetic bag, but for its price, it is one of the best all around values and can reasonably be used for extended trips. I primarily hike in northern Minnesota in the Superior National Forest, and have taken this bag on extended trips (five days on trail) with success. In this fall season ('07), I have had it on trail with temperatures in the high 20's and have slept comfortably. This bag is slightly more roomy than a comparable Marmot, but has better loft, and with a bag liner, will easily perform at its temperature rating. I particularly like the draft tube that prevents air infiltration through the zipper area. One of its more useful features is the pocket within the hood, that can be stuffed with clothing to form a pillow, and which keeps the clothes warm for morning. The regular size bag is just long enough for me, at six feet. Someone over six feet will want the long bag. Overall, this bag is an excellent value, although those who are interested in shedding every extra ounce, but who still want a synthetic bag, may prefer a North Face.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
This bag was a replacement for some ageing old school Coleman bags and military mummy bag. I took this on a trip to the Adirondaks. The stuff size was nice; it fit inside my carry on in the stuff sack, and into the kayak bulkheads on the paddle out to the campsite. The pillow pocket worked well when stuffed with a balled up towel. The warmth rating didn't get met but it did get cool to under 40 degrees and I was nice and toasty. I did have the above mentioned problems with the zipper snagging though.

Great bag that's inexpensive yet warm. Only real problem is the zipper snags easily so you have to be careful when zipping it up. Other than that, it's definitely worth the money.

This bag is perfect for camping all year. I use a fleece liner for the warmer months. It definitely keeps you warm even when it is windy. The hood is very comfortable and the small pocket inside the bag is perfect for a small flashlight.

Used this on recent winter desert hike, what a great bag! I've spent more on other bags and didn't get any more than this synthetic provided. Temps were down but my comfort was high. Very well constructed. The zipper moved effortlessly and the cinch hood cord stayed in place and kept me warm. Nice material too. I'm looking forward to putting it through the paces on several more winter and summer adventures

I just got back from a camping trip in the Blue Ridge Mtns and it was in the 30's at night, but this bag kept me nice and cozy. I don't think it would be the best bag for backpacking to bulky. But great for car camping.
