Comments about REI Kilo Flash +40 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I absolutely love how light and compressible this bag is. I bought a waterproof, compressible stuff sack for it (Granite Gear) and I can get it down to something the size of a grapefruit in my pack. Wow. Great. I also have been warm enough in it for summer conditions even camping in high mountains where temps were getting into the mid 40's. Any colder than that and I'm shivering. More importantly, most nights in the 50's and 60's were very comfortable - did not overheat.
However, the narrow, constrictive fit is getting old for me. I'm 5'10" and of average build. The fit of this bag around the shoulders is very tight, around the hips is tight. After several trips, I'm now starting to think about replacing it with something with a slightly wider fit - even if I have to give up a little more space in my pack. The claustrophobic fit of this bag has been causing me to lose sleep.
Definitely try this bag in the bag in the store before buying. I would highly recommend this bag if you can live with the tight fit. I thought I could, but am now changing my mind.

Comments about REI Kilo Flash +40 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
Now when I camp, I like to save ounces here and there. I've even gone to the extreame of bringing a scalpal instead of a fixed blade and cutting the handel off my tooth brush. So I like to save wieght.
However when I am in a sleeping bag that I cant even lay down in fully, thats a little too skimpy. Now I'm about 5' 6" tall and about 210 lbs. Not fat but built. This bag is definatley not for stocky people. I couldn't even cross my arms while in the bag or lay them down, I know it's minamalist but come on. You can't pound the trail if you didn't sleep last night.
So for those of you who are a bit larger in the upper body, I'd go for the Kelty down Galactic much better buy, rated for 5 degrees cooler and can fit in the small Granite Gear compression sack and be fully compressed. I could have even gone a size smaller if they made one.
However, just like with shoes or what no try it out in the store before you buy it will save time and money.

Comments about REI Kilo Flash +40 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
At first I thought it might be too narrow (I'm 5'6'' 160lbs) but after sleeping in it a few times it's given me no problems and contributes to keeping me warmer than I ever thought it would because of having less air space to heat. I've used this bag down to the 40 degrees it's rated to with a REI Lite Core sleeping pad and I want to try it at 30 since I wasn't chilly in the least. This bag is very light and compressible and I highly recommend it.

Comments about REI Kilo Flash +40 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I used an REI Kilo Flash 40+ starting in Southwest Virginia during my A.T. thru-hike this year (2007) and kept it until Rutland, VT (about 1200 miles or so). This is an extremely light bag to have, it compressed down real small that it hardly took up any room in my pack. It is great in warm weather when really all you need is something to cover up with. However, there were a few cold nights around 48 to 50 degrees that I was laying in this sleeping bag very cold. The only real problem I had with this bag was that it is a bit tight around the legs. I like to sleep on my stomach with one leg bent up (making a figure 4 with my legs) but couldn't get to that position with the zipper zipped up (I can do that with my winter bag and a few other bags I've tried out before). That is a minor and easily fixed problem, though: all I had to do was unzip the zipper and stick my knee out of the bag. When I check "Yes, I would recommend this to a friend" below, I check it with several exclamation marks. This is really a great buy.

Comments about REI Kilo Flash +40 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
Bought this bag as it was very light and compressible, and was stated to be comfortable down to 40 degrees. It is very light and packs easily, but I had some issues with it. Primarily, it didn't keep me comfortably warm at temps in the low 40s. I was fully dressed (except for shoes) including a fleece sweatshirt and was still found it chilly enough to wake me up during the night. I know the temps were not lower than 40 as I checked online when I got back from a canoeing trip at Quetico Park so I was disappointed in performance there.
Also, the bag is very narrow in the shoulders. I found myself very confined and barely able to move my arms with the bag zipped up.
I'm going to return this week and pick up a wider bag that hopefully will provide more warmth, or at least will hold up to its stated comfort rating.

My son used his bag while hiking with his troop. The bag is very light weight and compact which is a plus for a youth hiker. The nights were in the low 40's and he said he did not get cold although he did have difficulty the second night zipping the bag.

I got this bag on clearance for [$]! Couldn't get a better deal for a 40 degree 750 fill down sleeping bag. It is super light, compacts down to the size of a grapefruit, and comes with a decent compression sack. I would buy a better one for it though. Couldn't get a better summer backpacking bag. It is a tight fit to get inside, but nothing too bad. And because of its small size I can use it as a sleeping bag liner in my marmot never summer 0 degree and camp just fine in cold colorado winters! Totally happy with it!

Comments about REI Kilo Flash +40 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I use this for warmer weather backpacking, especially in arid climates, where I wont worry about the down's loft as much.
I am not a small guy, but I don't mind the size of the bag. It's close, but I have space to put my arms across my chest. At six foot, 200 pounds, after reading the reviews, I was honestly worried I would find it difficult to get into and out of, zip up, all that bit. No problems. Your mileage may vary, so try it out before you buy it if you can.
From past experience with similar material, I suspect the nylon is tougher than it feels. Best not to push it unnecessarily though.
The bag is quite lightweight, but I must admit I wish they had put an even greater ratio of the down on top. Smooshed flat down doesn't insulate, so why stick it on the bottom?
I'll be getting a lighter silnylon dry bag to stuff this in. The included compression sack seems a bit like overkill to me.
Personally, I would take this over other big brand bags in the same class. Save some money, sleep just as warm.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was faster than predicted, the item shipped quickly too. REI Service is great, I had a great conversation with a helpful staffer in the local store before I decided to buy.

after seeing the person below using this in the snow i would like to start w/, i am 5'4 120lbs. cold blooded. I used it on a 3 night trip, temp dropped to the high 40's and i was kinda cold. I was also alittle cramped but i also think i like to be more comfortable than most. Ultra light weight and super compacting powers. I think you can pack this bag into the jetboil cup. Good bag for summer for a person like me but check the opinion below. Dude's using it in the snow.
