Comments about Grilliput:

The grilliput is everything that it's advertised to be, but we find that we prefer to leave it at home. It takes quite some time to assemble, the cooking surface is very small, and it's heavier than we expected for backpacking. The poles for the legs are so narrow that they tend to sink into the campfire, we constantly work to keep it level and out of the fire (know this beforehand and place rocks to support the legs). A clever idea, but more of a novelty than a useful camping tool. It is, however, very compact, and fairly sturdy when assembled.

Comments about Grilliput:

Though a little heavy, what a great way to carry a decent sized grill (for 1-2 people). Very sturdy as long as you assemble it properly. Besides cooking, it's also handy for drying out socks/gloves/hats/etc over (very) low coals. If nothing else, it makes a great stick to thump your drunken tent-mate with.

Comments about Grilliput:

This grill is a terrific idea, and I hope they expand the product line. It is extremely compact (though rather hefty), making it convenient for backpacking. It is not a great grill if you plan to have a somewhat large fire though. The legs are of little use in a fire pit, and we opted instead for a few rocks to hold it up. Clean-up is not as simple as they claim, so bring a plastic bag for it. The assembly instructions are only moderately useful, so assemble it once before you take it camping. But overall it is a very nice compact grill.

I grilled two ribeyes on this and it worked ok at cooking but I left it over the coals while eating and the thin rods started melting. Good thing is once cool it was easy to rebend.

    Comments about Grilliput:

Very compact; hardly takes any space. We usually use it as a small table rather than a grill. The assembly order is very important and slightly complex. The kids love to put it together; thinking of it as a puzzle. It scores high on the cool gadget meter.

For its size, it is pretty heavy. Rather than steel, I would like to see an aluminum, or better yet, titanium option available. That would affect the cost, though.

Despite its shortcomings, we still take it on nearly every back country trip we take.

      Comments about Grilliput:

I have used mine on several occasions and it's been great to grill something on the trail. The one drawback is that it's a little tough to clean afterward (especially if your food sticks), but otherwise it's great. It has cooked fish, steaks, and shrimp kabobs without a problem. It folds extremely small and packs very well. It goes very well with the firebowl made for it too!

      Comments about Grilliput:

I have taken this and the Portable Grilliput Fire Bowl on many trips and love it... managed to cook 2 steaks and small amount of veggies on it for me and my girlfriend one night... the legs are a little small though which makes it sink into wet ground or desert sands. After setting it up once the first time with the instructions it is easy enough to remember how to setup. Being made of Steel it does have some heft for its small size...I would be willing to pay more for a lighter one made out of titanium.
Only big problem I had so far is I dropped it once onto some rocks from about torso height and now the end cap won't stay in so I just keep it in a ziplock bag...

A little on the heavy side but it is functional. I too use it as a small table. It works pretty good as a food prep area. Its also a pretty good conversation starter. I plan to give out a few for Christmas.
