Comments about REI City and Trail Walker Shocklight Walking Staff:
This cane is made by Komperedell and is the perfect replacement for the typical cane for someone needing all day every day ambulatory support. The shock absorber helps reduce joint problems associated with typical cane use. It is light, adjustable and strong and supports my weight when needed. However, I have had to replace the complete staff 4 times in 9 months because the shock system stopped working. It is VERY noisy after break-in (squeeks, clicks). 2 of 4 units were broken when brand new and had to be repaired prior to first use (tip-system fell off and plastic retracting pin broke-I replaced it with my own stainless pin). My newest model now includes a stainless pin-but is showing signs of breakdown after only 2 months. There are no other choices out there so I am stuck with this until something more durable comes along. If you are an aggressive walker/hiker expect to have many replacements under warranty. Or maybe try a Leiki?

Comments about REI City and Trail Walker Shocklight Walking Staff:
I am senior citizen. My daughter gave this staff as a present for walking thru the park and on road.
I used this staff for about 10 days when we went to Istanbul. It collapsed 3 times i.e the pin just pops out randomly.
The pin mechanism which allows you to make various changes is NOT well designed. I nearly broke my neck as the pin popped out while goinig down steps. Fortunately I was holding on to the railing.
I believe Komperdell should stop making such a poorly designed staff and REI should stop selling it.
On the positive side it is light weight and I enjoy the shock light on/off system.
I would like to return this staff but I live in Canada and will have to find a way to send it back to California where it was bought.
All in all NO thank you....I would not recommend this staff to my friends or even to my enemies because of its faulty pin design and mechanism.

Comments about REI City and Trail Walker Shocklight Walking Staff:
Well, it is light.
But in every other way this walkng stick fails. About a week after I got it the rubber tip wore down so much that the metal tip began contacting the floor, rendering it unsuitable for any indoor or hard surface walking. I pulled out the metal tip and discarded the "stock" rubber tip with a Leki tip. This restored usefullness for a couple of weeks until the friction secured metal pin that holds the "adjustable" tip fell out, leading to the entire last section separating. Flimsy might be better description than light. The entire end of the stick fell off while I was crossing a busy street.I now have a cotter pin holding the last section in place. I will relegate this stick to the trunk of the car as a last resort back up, and go back to the far superior Leki stick.

Comments about REI City and Trail Walker Shocklight Walking Staff:
This is the 2nd pole of the same model I've had. It's 90% there: The traditional handle gives me three different grip styles. The cork handle stays cool and dry under most conditions. The range of adjustment is enough for me.I use this pole habitually; it takes a beating and gives me the stability I want while on the trail. It's light and collapses nicely. However - the 2nd edition changed the design for accomodating a rubber pad for pavement. The new tip has a spring-loaded bolt/latch for pavement/trail friendly tip settings. The pins that hold it in position are plastic and wear quickly; the default setting is for pavement, and the nested tubes cram up with dirt quickly. Needs some flashy new colors too...lime, copper, etc.

Comments about REI City and Trail Walker Shocklight Walking Staff:
I am disabled, and needed something sturdy and light. This fits the bill. Plus, it collapses when in restaurants, and the anti-shock is great. The very comfortable handle disperses hand weight very well. I have had more compliments on this walking stick than I can count. The only thing is the availability of replacement tips, which wear smooth rather quickly. The disappearing tip into the rubber tip for ground walking is amazing, and unique.

Comments about REI City and Trail Walker Shocklight Walking Staff:
I love this Staff because it is versatile. The handle can be used with different grips depending on whether you are ascending or decending. It is lightweight and very stashable yet sturdy. The only thing that would make it better for me - is if it was about two inches longer at full extension.

This staff I am so happy to have. It gives me extra support and balance.
After foot surgery it was such an aid. It certainly helped the healing process.
Plus it is just fun to use.

The Anti-shock feature will not hold the setting it has been paced in.
Replaced with a Leki pole which is much quieter and of higher quality.

Had one for several years; it has been around the world. It feels lightweight, very comfortably so, but is easily strong enough for hiking.

Comments about REI City and Trail Walker Shocklight Walking Staff:
The pin that determines which tip is being used fails with limited use. Komperdell should redesign with high shear strength pin.
