Comments about Black Diamond Icon/Apollo NRG Rechargeable Battery Kit:
This is not really worth it. The estimated hours are much less with this rechargeable battery pack. It says it can get only up to 17 hours of use with the 3-watt on high versus 80 or so hours with 3 AA batts. It is obviously better to use AA batteries if that is the case. It is probably more economical to buy rechargeable AA batteries and charge it separately in a charger. Basically this thing is 3 AA batteries taped together with a cord built in
This is only good for maybe a 2 day trip. After that, you would need to carry spare batteries. Not a bad deal if you don't want to hassle with taking batteries in and out every time it dies to recharge since you can just plug the adapter into the side of the battery pack without opening it up.
It says it is valid for 2000 uses. From what I know, NimH batteries should only be charged after completely being discharged, however, the packaged instructions say it is ok to recharge without discharging the batt all the way like a LiOn battery...hmmm
HOWEVER, I MUST SAY THE ICON HEADLAMP IS THE BEST ON THE MARKET, BETTER THAN THE PT APEX AND PETZL

Comments about Black Diamond Icon/Apollo NRG Rechargeable Battery Kit:
Bought this a while back for my BD Icon Headlamp (which is fantastic, by the way). First time I used it, I had left it to charge for approximately two days, so it was fully charged. When I turned on the headlamp, it produced an extraordinarily weak beam. It put out less light than my Petzl Tikka Plus, and certainly did not do justice to a 3-watt lamp. Luckily, I was only using it to move some things into my house in the dark, and not out in the woods relying on this as my only light source. Yes, it's eco-friendly, but who cares if it doesn't work well.

Comments about Black Diamond Icon/Apollo NRG Rechargeable Battery Kit:
I was surprised to see the negative comments on the battery kit. I've owned the kit along with the Icon for about 1 1/2 years now and use it multiple times per week. I own two other headlamps and they haven't gotten any use since I've been able to use the rechargable Icon. The charge seems to last a good amount of time, even when the headlamp is used on high. I couldn't compare the light output with the rechargeable batteries compared to regular batteries (I only use the rechargeables), but the light output has been more than enough to hike along trails and even bushwack on occassion. Obviously, "your mileage may vary" but the rechargeable battery kit and the Icon is hands down one of my favorite bits of gear.

Comments about Black Diamond Icon/Apollo NRG Rechargeable Battery Kit:
I purchased this with the apollo lantern (which is a great lantern), but the battery doesn't hold a charge for very long when fully charged and it takes for ever for it to recharge. My advice-save the money and don't purchase this.
