Comments about Redfeather Snowpaws Snowshoes - Kids':
Okay, I know an almost three year old would not be able to strap these on and stomp through fresh powder all day, heck even Mommy and Daddy have trouble. We thought these would be a fun way to "introduce" our almost three year old to snowshoeing. We thought these were great on paper (ie. picture), but in actuality they are almost impossible for her to walk in. They are big and heavy and have no real bottom, other than a reversed image from being a one piece plastic molded stamp. So, it may seem obvious to most, not to us, wait a couple more years and keep the kiddies in the tricked out Chariot stroller w/ ski attachments....This may be a better comment note for the out-of-touch grandparents out there looking for a wonderful gift for junior.

Comments about Redfeather Snowpaws Snowshoes - Kids':
These look adorable but are so wide that they're impossible for my 3-year-old to walk in. With every step, one shoe comes down on top of the other, which is then trapped, and down she goes. Her legs are only so long, and there's no way for her to get her feet far enough apart to avoid overlapping the shoes. I can't really say how they perform since we couldn't get anywhere with them. These might work when she's older, but by that point we'll probably want something more rugged anyway.

I bought these Snow Paws as a xmas gift. Thought they were so cute and would be so fun for a small child. I was skeptical about how the binders actually stay closed s[...] Still buying them because of how cute they are, but now returning them and would never recommend them to anyone. I brought them home, tried everything to have the binders actually keep tention on a childs boot, no luck. The buckle is a cheap plastic with a little nub sticking out that is suppose to hold a strap in place. Great concept. Improve the buckle/strap/binders and you'd have great fun product. [...]

I thought that this would be a fun activity for my 3-yr old niece, but like the other reviewers have stated, they are too wide for her little legs to handle. They are also difficult to secure to her feet, and the buckles undo themselves, causing the snowshoes to fall off. Spend your money on something else!

I bought for my 4 yr old daughter. I was skeptical, but since they were Redfeather and on sale I thought I'd give them a try. We planned to use them for real hikes in non-groomed rolling terrain. They are not suitable for this. I would describe these as toy snow shoes only suitable for use in the back yard and at the park. The footprint is too wide and so each foot frequently steps on the other. The binding system attaches securely to the foot, but does not hold the foot securely to the shoe, so the feet slide sideways on uneven terrain. They have no significant traction. Finally, since the toe is attached to the shoe without a pivot, the toe of the snowshoe does not lift when the child raises a foot to take a step and so the front of the shoe trips the kid in the snow. These shoes are inexpensive, but not worth the savings if you want the child to be able to walk anything but short distances on packed snow in flat terrain.

Once we were over the initial learning phase, my daughters and I had a blast snowshoeing together. Just understand that it is a new skill that your child has to learn. My daughters were frustrated at first, but I put my snowshoes on and we all played in the snow. After making it a fun time together, they developed the skills to use their new snowshoes. From there it has just been fun getting out and seeing Alaska.

OK for a five or six year old. They have little traction, so they will slip on any kind of incline with ice. OK for the price.

Having read previous comments that concerned me about this product, I felt compelled to write a review. We took our almost 4 year old grandson out for some snowplay yesterday. He's never been on snowshoes before but mastered these in no time. The straps stayed on with no trouble although they do flap around a bit...we stretched the straps snugly to start. He did fine on level, rolling and downsloping terrain. Icy patches sent him to the ground since these provide little grip on hard ground. He loved the monster prints his shoes left in the snow and was able to cover alot of ground with little trouble. These are a fun play item. When he's older, we'll get him some more aggressive shoes so he can progress.

I read earlier reviews and almost did not get these for my 4 grandchildren (3,4, and 2 5-year-olds), but I'm glad I did! They had a great time making tracks in our yard and will use them for playtime outside. If you want to go on a snowshoeing trek with your kids, these are not the shoes. But if you want to give them a fun 30-45 minutes of making tracks in the backyard or the park, these are perfect! The wider stance took a little bit of getting used to, but that would be true for any snowshoe. The kids all loved them.

Our 4 year old has really enjoyed using these snowshoes. We have not used them in extreme situations as that was not our intent in purchasing them. I think they have done a good job in teaching him how he needs to step in order to use real snowshoes (which we will eventually advance to) He can not put them on himself, but we do not have to constantly bind them as they hold quite well. We are impressed with this inexpensive plastic product!
