Comments about Alpina NNN BC 1550 Backcountry Boots - Men's:

Poor design. Many reviewers last year shared these same thoughts. A seam at the top of the toes will rub them raw in 3 miles or less. Skip this boot, and other budget boots that have this same seam issue. For [$]other makers have a quality boot available. Also two other design flaws. Cannot lace securely because of too large snow shield. Padding at upper boot laces is inadequate.

Comments about Alpina NNN BC 1550 Backcountry Boots - Men's:

Same complaint as the rest... there's a seam across the top of the toe box that shredded the skin off the tops of my toes. I stuck with these boots for a full season thinking they were just a tough break-in but the problem never went away. By the end of the season I was resorting to taping up my toes before skiing but even with that I was pulling Curt Schilling's socks out of my boots after a session.

Gave up, sold them on Ebay, and bought a pair of Soloman's. Bummer.

Comments about Alpina NNN BC 1550 Backcountry Boots - Men's:

These boots performed especially well throughout the past ski season in a variety of conditions. In Western WA, where low temps are mild, my feet kept warm and dry. I typically do not experience arch support issues but I needed supplementary soles inside these boots to eliminate foot fatigue during longer (day long) outings.

Comments about Alpina NNN BC 1550 Backcountry Boots - Men's:

I've been backcountry touring and telemarking on an old pair of 3-pin Asolo Snowfields for 15 years, but when they finally blew out I decided to try these out. They just didn't fit my needs for a couple of reasons:

they aren't stable enough for me...this is probably as much the NNN-BC binding as the boots, but they are kind of soft. I bet for a pure touring person they'd be fine, and they're toasty and warm. I didn't count this against them in myu ratings. However...

They are ill-fitting and caused nasty blisters on the top of my right foot. Others have written about this but I agree it's a design flaw and counted this against them pretty harshly in my review. I suspect some people's feet may work with these, but mine aren't that unusual so if you buy them, try them out critically during the return period. I am returning them tomorrow, perhaps in favor of some three pin boots, but definitely for a better fit.

Comments about Alpina NNN BC 1550 Backcountry Boots - Men's:

I bought these boots to replace an older pair of BC boots that fit like a glove. I skied two miles in and noticed that the boot was rubbing the tops of my toes on the kick. At this point a nine mile ski turned into a ski back to the truck to shed these boots. There is a design flaw that places the seam directly over your toes on these boots. I had massive blisters on three toes and returned them to the store the following week. I haven't had blisters since college and I have an average foot 10.5/D. I would definitely recommend against these boots.

Comments about Alpina NNN BC 1550 Backcountry Boots - Men's:

Having tried a variety of XC boots over 40 years, this is by far the best all round XC boot I have tried. It provides outstanding support, and comfort. It provides excellent warmth in cold weather, a little warm around freezing temps. It is fairly easy to put or on take off, and to adjust. They remain secure throughout several hours of skiing and have proven durable.

Note: I have feet which are a little wider (but narrow heals) and higher arches than typical, and typically ski through the bush or on trails in temperatures usually between -5 to -20c. I do not find the Rossignol fit suitable.

Comments about Alpina NNN BC 1550 Backcountry Boots - Men's:

I'm an downhill skier turned avid XC touring skier, and bought these to try to get into tele turns. So far this season, it's been mostly groomed trails, kick and glide and these work fine - BUT - it's true that they do rub against the top of the feet, esp the big toe at the bottom of the toe nail. This has subsided completely on the left foot, and for a while I was taping my right toe, which helped. Last couple of times I didn't tape, and the problem's almost gone. I guess it's probably a break-in issue, but the cut of the toe-cap on these is probably the culprit. Most XC boots these days have zippered covers for the laces, and I think that helps. The laces on these get snowed and iced up. Guess it's a mixed review. I feel like there should be something better, but I don't know what it is - Rossi's, maybe? I bought Alpina because I know they fit my wide (EE) feet. Had bad experience with Fischer boots.

Comments about Alpina NNN BC 1550 Backcountry Boots - Men's:

I've used these boots for 4 winter seasons. They still look and perform well. I've been out when it was so could my moist breathe froze in my facemask, making it difficult to exchange air. Yet my feet have always been comfortable and warm. I've been out in slush yet my feet didn't sweat. I'm writing this reveiw because I was wondering what they are insulted with. I wanted the same insultion for a hiking boot. These ski boots offer study support for backcountry skiing. They take abuse and still look new.

I took these boots out for a 9 week research season on the Juneau Icefield. They worked pretty well, but did not retain much heat when i was working in them. my feet from the ankles down went num many times. These are good boots, but not the warmest. These are great for shorter trips, but get a warmer boot if you'll be out for a month or more.
