Comments about Deuter KangaKid Child Carrier:
We took this pack hiking before taking it on vacation to San Francisco. It took us a while on the hike to figure out the right fit for both our two year-old and the carrier (dad). The load adjusting straps are located inside the pack so getting that just right might require someone else's help. Once we got that cinched up most of load ended up on my hips so hiking was bearable but not nearly as comfortable as our Sherpani as this carrier allowed our toddler to shift his weight over to one side. My shoulders hurt after about 30 minutes.
Surprisingly, walking around the city was much more comfortable. Probably because of the even terrain of sidewalks versus rocky trail, my shoulders didn't hurt so much.
There is plenty of room to hold kid supplies for day-hiking. Love the outside mesh pockets and smaller organizer pockets. It is kind of a trick to get the kid in and out of it though since it doesn't stand up on its own. I prop it up against a tree or something if I am alone.
All in all I would not use this as a primary carrier but for running errands, farmer's market, shopping, and emergency/backup purposes it is a handy pack to have in the back of your van.

Great pack for taking the kids around town. The only problem is it doesn't stand up on its own so it's difficult to get the child in and out of unless the pack is already on your back.

Comments about Deuter KangaKid Child Carrier:
I am a nanny and the family I work for got this pack. I have used it a couple of times, but the baby (4 mos) is really too small for it still, so that is the first con. Another thing I don't like about it is the pockets are impossible to reach unless you take the pack off...and there's no stand so good luck holding it upright w/ the baby in it while you dig around looking for what you need in the pockets. The last downside is the lack of sunshade. The baby I care for has a hat but because the pack is too big for him, he slides to the side and the hat falls off. All in all I wouldn't recomend this since you'd end up having to carry a separate purse or small bag for your wallet, phone and camera anyway. It might be OK to use around the house and yard. It would be improved by having a pocket on the front straps for small stuff you might need in a hurry.

I've had this backpack for 3 kids now! They all LOVE it! I can do work around the house, the yard, hiking, everything with it on! And, the way that it works, the weight is really close to your back, so it's awesome, very comfortable.
I use it almost daily, walking around outside, anytime I need my hands free, even cleaning around the house!
I tried on the Kelty one, and it for some reason really keeps the weight of the baby a lot further from your back, which makes the shoulder straps really dig into your shoulders, as compared to this one, that has the weight pretty evenly distributed from the hips/back/shoulders. Works great as soon as the baby can hold their head up!
