Comments about Merrell Chameleon Wrap Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
As a former footwear expert at REI, I have alot of experience fitting this shoe. Merrell's generally run 1/2 size short. The heel cup is medium in size but will snug-up with use and the toe-box is categorized as wide. I bought this shoe becuase of the full-length nylon shank in the midsole. I prefer stiffer footwear since I wear orthotics. I use this shoe as my everyday "sneaker" and also use it for trail running (i realize it is heavy but provides for a good workout and my feet do not hurt). The traction is good unless there is light snow on the ground. My wife uses the women's version and loves the shoe for dayhikes

Bought these for the stiff, solid, "grippy" sole. Here in the desert need the solid sole foundation for the rocks and cacti. A wimpy sole will fatigue your foot in no time flat. The gore-tex is nice during the monsoon season. Don't get too hot either. Great hiking shoe.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Wrap Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
I have been wearing these shoes daily for the past year and love them. I work in theater and am on my feet all day long. Most shoes don't last more than 3 months with the abuse I give them. These have held up like a champ. I love being able to not have to worry about rain or snow, I have worn them hiking and they have never failed to support me. The only thing I have had to do is replace the insole, due to my incredible lack of arches.

These shoes were used for day hikes and every day use. They were used for about one year when the vibram soles started to wear though and bubble out. They also make a popping noise when I walk. [...]

The soles on these delaminated 1/2 through our trip in costa rica. These were the older version which were only worn a few times. The first pair I had worked well. I refused to buy the new version since they changed the design. The new ones are just badly design for hiking.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Wrap Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
I bought these shoes since they fit so nice, though I did have buy half a size larger than normal. There are 2 major problems I had with this shoe. 1: When going up a mildly steep hill, the heel tends to slip, eventually creating blisters. 2: After about 2 months of wearing these shoes, I noticed one day that the nubs from the soles just disappeared. The circular grip from the vibram soles had apparently just fell of, voiding the shoe of any waterproofing capability. Seems pretty cheap for [$]dollar shoes.

took a while to break in, but once broken, great shoes. wore on a 7 mile backpack / fly fishing excursion, and these things stuck to wet, slimy granite like i was spiderman. also, waterproof. while cleaning fish or pumping water, i stood in 3 inches of water and feet did not get wet. i love em. Great hiking shoes. I used them in the AZ desert and the muddy trails of WA. Goretex works well for those shallow puddles and streams. Great traction, and great comfort for someone who suffers from heal spurs (me!).
