Summited Hood in some Sundowners 20 years ago. These are very comfortable urban/short hike boots. In 8 months I destroyed a pair (seams and eyelits split) using them in the Puyallup countryside on daily one hour crosscountry hikes with my standard poodles off leash. Rain, snow and dusty bridle trails. The booty remained water proof through the split in the uppers. [...] Am purchasing another pair and I will use NIKWAX on the uppers and keep them away from the furnace in our mud room. Hoping for a year and half anyway.Still have the Sundowners.

Out of the box, great fit. Buy a half-size up, at minimum! The boxy toe on these puppies make my dogs happy...did several miles with 30 pounds at 15 minute mile pace and had no issues. The shoes feel like they're hugging your feet...with the stock insoles, too! I normally have to slide in the Superfeet to get this kind of feel.
Soles are very grippy, which will mean they wear quickly. Can't wait to hit the mountains for a real test!

Comments about Keen Targhee II eVent Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought my first pair of these high tops a year ago. I really like the wide toe box and the toe protection against rocks and roots. I use them when doing work hikes on the Appal Trail in Va., So they get all sorts of abuse. This past weekend I bought a comparable pair of low tops (on sale at REI)for hot weather wear. My high tops are holding up well except for two areas on the side of the sole where the "pointed" dark rubber is separating from the light gray rubber sole. I'm trying to glue the loose ends back on -- unsuccessfully so far with Gorilla glue. I do recommend both the high and low cut Targhee II models. But be careful when sizing them. My normal shoe/boot size is a 10 (narrow foot - B) and I have a pair of Keen Austin casual shoes in 10 that fit fine. But the high tops in 10 were way too small, so I went with a 10.5, which have been okay but still a bit snug when wearing thick socks. But I can still do an all-day work hike on the Appal Hike with these okay. When I tried the 11, they felt too floppy. I should have gone with the 11. So, when I bought the low cuts at REI, I tried the 10.5, which felt okay and bought them. I slept on the purchase, though, remembering the subtle snugness problems I had with the high top 10.5 model. I wore the 10.5 ones at home on the living room rug. I decided to take them back and just try the 11, a size I never would have considered doing with other brands. The low cut 11 is great. [...] Today I wore the new 11 low cuts on a mini-hike on the local nature trail and did fine. If I buy a new pair of Targhee high tops, I'll get an 11. My point is, be leery of Keen's sizing system. What would appear normal for your size, may not be. I now have three pairs of Keens, each in a different size -- and I wear them all.I still have to figure out a way to glue those loose parts together, though.

I really, really like this boot. I have had it for about 6 months now and I have no issues with wear as some others have reported. I have worn many other brands over the years and this is the most comfortable pair I've ever had. The break in period was non-existent. I've done many miles on the AT in them, and also did about 8 miles walking around London on a rainy/snowy English winters day. My feet stayed absolutely dry and I had no pain!
I have a 20 mile weekend coming up in a few weeks and I look forward to the next test of these boots.

I bought these in Alaska in November to tromp around on a glacier. I was surprised how warm my feet stayed. I was equally surprised that my feet stayed dry when I was walking through slush and water in Montreal. I generally don't avoid puddles and wet grass when I'm wearing these (which has been almost every day for about two years). A little CampDry spray down has helped I think.I've worn these all throughout western Anatolia, India, Mexico as well as state parks and trials in Northern Georgia. Also in lots of airports. They are great to travel in and have held up pretty darn well with some basic heel wear. I was told [...] that Keens run about 1/2 big which was precisely the case for me. When buying running shoes I will try on about 30 or 40 pairs before I find the right one for my foot. I only tried on about 6 pairs of boots before this pair and these just really felt right. I've had a few people, complete strangers, ask me about them in airports and such and I always recommend them. I agree with an earlier reviewer who said he should have bought two pair. For me, they've been great boots even with their few minor downsides.

One full size too short. The 35" laces are too short to tie easily, so I replaced with 54" laces. Worst thing is that one of the lace crossovers is on an unpaddded section of the fabric tongue. Tongue shoud be leather to distribute the lace crossover pressure. I had a cobbler add leather shielding under that lace corssover where it previously hurt the top of my instep after wearing all day. The pull on loops are fabric and oriented 90 degrees away from the usual convenient positon so are inconvenient to grab. These loops also hook onto the top lace hook when you cross your feet. Must check to be certain that the lace is not captive when uncrossing your feet or you will surely trip and fall. Haven't taken any serious hikes yet [...]Recommend shoes with reservations.

Comments about Keen Targhee II eVent Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I have to say that I love Keen Shoes. I have had these boots for several months as I was planning a week long hike on the Appalachian Trail through the Smokies. Footwear is something that is not high on my info list. At least not until now. Picked up a pair of these boots and wore them all the time prior to my trip. They were extremely comfortable and fit my feet very well. The lacing system allows to have the shoe pulled up onto your heel.
After my first day hiking into my first shelter, my feet were pretty trashed. Day 1 was 9 miles, mostly incline, pretty rocky and uneven surface. The boots offered little support for my physical frame plus a pack holding a weeks worth of supplies. (about 55#) When morning came, I felt much better and headed out to shelter number 2. Only 6 miles and was a good mix of trail. My feet still felt the trail. As I headed out on day three, I made it about 9 miles and could not take any more. My feet had enough and I felt if I continued, would end up with an injury.
Pay attention to what the description says under style: Light Hiking.
Though I was told by a sales person these boots would work well for my trip, they did not.
Without the weight and extended travel, they are wonderful. These boots would be perfect for a day hike with light pack, but not much more than that. Even daily wear would be good.
I am much the wiser after this experience and yes still love Keen shoes!

i have the targhee II in the mid AND low designs and love them both ... i would recommend 1/2 a size up if you wear wool hiking socks as i do. i took them out the other day to ouachita national forest (AR) for 21 miles. great on climbs and descents, didn't slip much through the creek and only experienced mild dampness with quick submerges - full submerges is a different story. that was pretty much key for me since my buddy was all in the creek and slipping with vibram soles. overall comfort, performance, looks, and durability all work for me.

Very comfortable boot; I love 'em. I use them everyday in the winter for construction work. Extremely comfy and water resistant. Only complaint I have is they are hot. In the Sacramento valley in the summer - too hot.

Comments about Keen Targhee II eVent Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots as an all round daily shoe and light 7-10 mile hiker. They where a dream for the first 5-6 months but then a squeak started. Like some horror story it started out small in one shoe, then got louder and louder. then the other boot joined in, in unison, and at a different octave! well needless to say I don't like scaring all the wildlife, wild and domesticated, away! SO these boot have taken an early retirement. On top of this noisy issue, the soles wore out rather fast.
