Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
I love these gloves. They are an excellent all-in-one package. The liners work well in mild temperatures. The shells work well in wet weather. And the liners combined with the shells provide exceptional warmth. I have used these gloves while hiking in freezing temperatures and blizzardy conditions in the Alps and they provided all the warmth I needed plus some. I should note that they also do a good job of wicking moisture and keeping the hands dry even if your hands are sweating. The idiot cord is a nice feature, and the shell fabric is comfortable when wiping your nose.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
Took this glove on a trip to Aconacgua, along with the OR Alti-Mitts. The wind tore through these gloves at lower altitudes (12k to 14k), and my fingers were freezing. Was not impressed and suffice to say I did not wear these on summit day. Get a windproof liner if you buy these.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
I love these gloves. They keep my hands warm and dry during the cold winters here in Colorado while allowing my hands plenty range of motion. I can even unlock my car door with them on.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
The first time I wore these was to dig my car out of a fresh snowfall. It was 11 degrees out and not windy at all. My hands stayed dry, the gloves fit wonderfully but my fingertips got painfully cold. These are not the gloves that I want to take on a frigid, windy ski slope! Good design, just not enough insulation where it's needed.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
I work outside as a security guard. After buying these gloves I worked in a 10 to 15 degree day and my hands stayed dry and warm in fact by the in of the day I had to take the outer liner off.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
The "headline" kind of says it all in this case. In really cold weather, most concerns after the "warm and dry" part are secondary.
The dual pulls are nice. I like the liners that are included but think they are a little short, they do not quite cover my wrist. This is only a concern because, as a photographer, I will often remove the shell and make adjustments to the camera while wearing only the liner. If it is really cold, I will wear the OR PL 400 liner instead.
This glove seemed to run just a little small for my hand. All my other OR gloves are size large; had to go with an extra large here. Fit is still great though.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
I have spent the last 5 years using cheap gloves to go snowboarding, and have always experience numb fingers if I didn't put hand warmers in the gloves. I bought these in Fall 2008 and got a bit of use out of them so far. I can't imagine going back to any other glove after using these! They are windproof and waterproof, warm but not uncomfortable on sunny snow days. Don't WASTE your money on an inferior product as I have in the past...rather INVEST in something to keep you comfortable all day.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
These gloves are probably good for casual use, but come up short as a solid winter mountaineering glove. I brought these on a winter attempt at Hood and several trips in the Whites. Each time, winds ripped clean through both layers even in double digit temperatures and left my hands freezing. Would not recommend these gloves to winter mountaineers.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
Solid gloves. It comes with inner liners which is nice since you can either have them or not depending on the day's temperature. Hands felt dry all day and the pull straps at the end are nice to tighten up around your jacket sleeves.
When skiing all day with the temp in the mid teens my hands were okay despite their tendency to get cold easily. However, if it was going to be any colder, I honestly think only mittens would keep hands totally warm if you're fingers don't get great circulation. But I'd recommend these gloves without hesitation for temps in the high teens on up.

Comments about Outdoor Research Arete Gloves:
These are the best gloves. I have long fingers, and these were the only gloves that fit my hands well. They perform incredibly. I learned that when snow gets in them, like when you take them off for whatever reason, even large amounts of snow evaporate quite quickly and your hands are warm again. The liners are only necessary on the coldest of cold days. Usually just the shells are enough. With the liners, they're unstoppable. I couldn't be more pleased with these gloves and would definitely buy them again.
