Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
I used to own a fleece neckwarmer. The wool is so much better!! It is warmer per weight; more windproof; stays warm when wet; and is less bulky (packs smaller). It is not itchy at all! I practically live in my black one. I can wear it to work in winter; backpack with it; and from October through April I put it on every time I go cycling. It has become my most essential piece of cycling gear. Makes a big difference on the downhill (and probably keeps me from getting colds anymore). Since it's wool, it also never gets stinky; it can go for weeks between washings.

Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
When I bought this I had no clue it was a neck Gaiter. I have yet to use it as one.
This is by far the greatest hat I have ever had. The top of your head is actually never that cold. It's your ears, forehead, and crown. The direct middle is actually so hot you can leave it open in freezing temps and be fine. I also fold over the top flaps to close the top when it is to cold.
I have bought a second one & installed a pull string around the top so I can cinch it closed & tight.
I have also folded it to be an ear band or rolled the end to make a folded type beanie with the top open.
SmartWool (which is just really good marketed Merino Wool) is great. No itchy itchy or fishy wool smell. Very soft, light, & warm.
Biggest plus is that you can wear this all day hiking or climbing; sweating like a Sumo wrestler and it won't smell. I'm the type of guy that easily gets warm & when I adjust to cool off I get too cold. This gaiter makes it easy to regulate your temp by opening the hole or scrunch it up to show more skin.
I shave my head and wear this every day as it is so comfy. Buy 2 so you can keep one nice for Urban use & one for camping.

Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
this past year i became more of a committed runner, and this is my first winter running outside. when it started getting cold (we're having an unusually cold and very snowy winter here in maryland!), i couldn't run for too long because i would just start coughing. then i found this guy, and all my problems were solved! i just put it on before i head out, making sure i cover my mouth and nose, and it warms the air as it enters my lungs. goodbye cold-air coughing! it's also fairly moisture wicking, so that even if you break out a sweat it doesn't stay cold and wet. an extra plus: i look like a ninja when i'm running with it! this neck gaiter has instantly become one of my essential winter gear items.

Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
this was my first wool gaiter. very soft and comfy against the skin. doesnt hold moisture and could easly go over your mouth and ears and still cover your neck. i think i do like fleece a little better as far as heat retention.

Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
I mainly use this when I ride my motorcycle. It's great for winter. Just keeping my neck and face warm has made a huge difference in my overall body heat retention. I have found that even at higher speeds this keeps about 90% of the wind out and it stays dry in light rain. I don't itch afterward either. Also, it doesn't make me feel sweaty or smell bad after several uses. It has multiple uses. I fold it in half and use it as a headband when I run. It's a bit pricey so I was hesitant to pay that much but it really is worth every penny!

Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
I bought this neck gaiter primarily for commuting, but I have also used it for hiking and it impresses in both activities. Combined with a wool cap, it creates a great balaclava for cold weather bicycle commuting. In less extreme weather it makes a great headband, headliner, and of course, neck gaiter. it dries rather quickly. It does have a bit of a bad odor when wet, but that is completely expected of wool so it is not a problem.
I was thinking about buying the Buff Wool Buff, but the SmartWool Neck Gaiter can easily be reconfigured to the length of the Buff by cutting the seam and hemming it. Then you essentially have the Buff Wool Buff, but it is of softer wool and four dollars cheaper.

Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
I bought this workhorse for running in cold weather (harsh NY winter), but I now own three and have bought it as gifts for three other people. Liike me, they wear them all the time. In fact, I wear it whenever I'm casually dressed when it's cold out (ie, under a windbreaker or a down vest) because it is so comfortable, it just blends in with whatever I'm wearing, it is extremely lightweight yet very warm, and isn't at all bulky like a scarf. One of my friends thought it was silly when I first bought him one, but I now never seem him without it, even on his way to work since the gaiter fits in his coat pocket when it's not in use. Buy a bunch - for yourself and for all your loved ones. Smartwool has done it again!

Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
I bought this for running or walking the dog through the winter. It is very versatile. You can tuck it under the back of your stocking cap and pull it up to your nose like to imitate a balaclava or just wear it as it lays on your neck. Even wearing this just on my neck keeps me significantly warmer.
I opted for a wool neck gaiter vs. fleece for odor issues. My fleece jackets take on a sweaty smell with moderate perspiration and I was concerned a fleece neck gaiter would quickly do the same. I am pleased to report that the wool has never picked up any odor.
