Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
I have had this headlamp for 4 years now and its been to Iraq and Afghanistan. i have never had one issue with it and its always been no more than an arms length away. I still have it to this day and I still use it at least once a week. I have never changed had to buy anything but batteries. I will def buy again if I lose this one or it breaks.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
The buttons are WAY too small. Wearing gloves makes turning the darned thing on a real pain in the [*]. I lost the clear lense that comes with the headlamp, and I can't seem to find a replacement for it. Petzl only sells the colored lense replacement, which are mostly worthless. The lamp is very bright though, and the lense storage is ingeniuos. I think I'm going to try a Black Diamond lamp next time, as I've had little luck with Petzl or Princeton.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
I have used this lamp climbing, mountaineering in white-outs, rain storms, camping, running, biking, etc. for about 2 years. Pros:*Top-of-head strap is excellent for mounting on helmets while climbing and rappelling where you simply cannot worry about the lamp sliding down around your neck at the wrong time.*The blast feature is surprisingly useful when you're scouting out trails, checking for obstacles far ahead, etc. I would imagine that the blast is twice as bright as the bean on "High." I never really needed it longer than 20 seconds, so that limit was never an issue.*The sliding lens to switch between flood and beam is extremely convenient since when hiking and climbing, you often want to switch between the two modes and you can do so instantly without needing to cycle through all of the modes to toggle the modes.*The construction is sturdy, and the battery cover has a nice rubber gasket that makes me think it was super weather-resistant.Cons:*Price is too high: I backpacked with somebody for a week who was using the Energizer Trail 7-LED model you can buy for $15. The brightness of the two models is identical and both models have beam, flood, and night vision features. Thus, you're paying [$] for a head strap and the convenience of the sliding bean/spot toggle and the brand name. I say buy $1 worth of elastic and tie your own top-strap if it's that important. If you're that concerned with looks, then you don't have business being in the outdoors. I'm buying the energizer model for my next lamp.*For the last few months up until my lamp was stolen, I noticed that the light would dim sporadically during use. One could squeeze the casing just right and it would return to its normal brightness or a few more minutes, but this was disconcerting since I was using it as my primary light on high-stakes climbing expeditions. For a premium light from a premium company, I didn't expect any malfunctions like this.*Changing the colored filters between a white flood and a red night vision lens is a PAIN! It requires prying off the plastic lens retainer and swapping out the lenses by carefully positioning the new lens in the "track" and replacing the plastic retainer. I rarely ever did this because 1) it took several minutes, 2) the lenses are so small and the pieces are loose while swapping them out that I never really wanted to do it at night or in harsh conditions since I'd lose a piece, and 3) whenever I removed the retainer, I thought I would crack something since it's very tight. I say all this because these characteristics effectively mean that you either have a white flood or a night vision, but never both on the same expedition. And since I rarely used the night vision and always wanted the flood, I just kept the red lens in the little holder attached to the head strap. The other colors are a silly add-on.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
[...].I have several other Petzl headlamps ( Petzl MYO XP and a Petzl Duo headlamp ) and all still work just like the day they were new. I just have them in different places like the daypack, backpack, and the ATV cargo box. I bought this Petzl Tactikka XP mainly because of the interchangable color lens feature and the fact I rely on Petzl quality products. On a recent( dark )very early morning archery hunt my hunting partner told me I couldn't use my Petzl Myo XP headlamp because the white light would scare the animals we would be hunting. I had to stumble along behind him with his red headlight ( brand X ) lighting the way for the both of us. I am sure I will use this light for other outdoor adventures besides just for hunting. I use my Petzl headlights for night X-country trips also and they are fantastic for that purpose with never a fear of being left out in the dark. I don't go anywhere outdoors without one of my Petzl headlights to light the way home if I get caught out in the dark. I am sure my Petzl headlights will be still working for my kids long after I am gone. I almost forgot in all my praise about this headlamp, but my only con on this particular headlamp is I just think it might be a little difficult to change the batteries in the cold and dark. I am afraid the little plastic ears on the battery compartment lid will snap off so be a careful here.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
This headlamp stayed with me through a tour in Iraq and another in Afghanistan. Saved my bacon more than once. I like it so much, I bought a second one to keep in my truck. There is rarely a time when I don't have the Tactikka within arm's reach of me. STRONGLY recommend.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
By far, this is the best headlamp I've ever had. My first was a Petzl with an adjustable beam lamp and that huge battery on the back of my head. That one was good for what it did, but the batteries were getting more scarce and I decided to upgrade. I went for price and purchased a unit from a competing brand. Let's just say the quality wasn't there and after a year or so, it just stopped working all together.
My replacement was this Petzl Tactikka XP. It's not the smallest or most expensive, but it is a phenomenal unit! I love this thing! It's versatile and highly adjustable. As for some of the negative points like a low red beam... Well, that's because it's a dispersion (fog) pattern. It's not meant to be a (spot) beam. The red light works perfectly for low light work or driving at night where bright light would hinder your night vision. The light is highly adjustable for just about any position you might need. I really can't say enough. It's easy to use and lightweight.
Buy this light!!

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
I actually have the non-tactical version but they're essential the same unit without the extra mounting options.
This light is a great value, high quality, waterproof and extremely versatile. Several of my backpacking friends have bought these also because they liked mine so much. Very bright. Good battery life.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
Great headlamp. I have used this year round in the sun and the rain. The adjustable beam works well and the boost mode comes in very handy. The only drawback is the weight. If you use it to run at night it jumps a little as it's heavy. The brilliance of the light is worth the trade off in weight.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
I've owned several headlamps over the years, but when I saw this one I knew it would satisfy all my needs for lighting while backpacking.
There are plenty of light level settings, a boost setting (very handy!) and the all-important red light for preserving night vision.
