Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
When people complain about cleaning, its only because the inside needs to be cleaned with a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol when there is serious build up. Any problems with the knife (dulling, cracks, or anything else) send it to benchmade and the will fix or replace it. I have had it sharpened once and the clip replaced once over the past 5 years. It has handled heavy abuse by being dropped, used to cut items on rocks (fish mainly), and I have even fallen on it (I got hurt, it didn't). This can handle anything and if it doesn't it is backed by benchmade.
Service and delivery comments:
Slow delivery (not going to be overnighted back to you), product returned like new (if not better). Customer service was VERY helpful.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
I've owned this knife for over three years. I bought it to replace a lost knife. In the years I had it while serving as an Army medic, it was a wonderful tool that was always up for the job. I haven't had any problems with the plastic handle. If it's treated like a good knife should be, it should hold up for years of hard use. Cutting combat boots with this knife was always quicker than the issued trauma shears. Great investment, I've got it everywhere I go.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
good knife, easy opening and closing. The belt clip loosens easily and I could not find an Allen Wrench small enough to tighten. the plastic grip fractured and "flaked" off, exposing metal underneath.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
This knife has become one of the few items that I never am without. When not in my pocket it resides in the bowl by the front door with car keys, ID, CCards and pocket change. The locking mechanism is positive and fail safe, the action to close & open is smooth and very easy. The edge stays sharp for +6 months even with daily abuse. My first knife lasted three years before TSA inherited it (my bad, just forgot it was in my pocket) the 2nd is in my pocket now, the third, which was bought today, will be a gift. While I own several knives, this is the one with me every day. Recommended

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
I've attended a couple of tactical trainers with this knife clipped into my vest. It has crawled thru sand, gravel and mud and keeps working. I could hear the grit as I opened the blade, and yes it slowed down the mechanism some, but it could still be done with one hand.
I saw a few other posts said the black wears off the blade and the housing has cracked away. I have not had either problem yet. Actually as hard as I am on things, if it was going to happen I would have thought it would by now.
That said the black on the CLIP is painted over silver and the clip has worn and scratched away along the edges. Not a big deal to me. The clip can easily be removed and painted rattle can black if it became necessary.
For daily carry, sometimes in rough environments, this has been a solid knife.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
I have owned this knife for over four years. It has survived countless trips to the mountains, every day use and two combat tours now. Simply stated: this knife has been abused and abused and abused! The blade has never once let me down. Chances are that I will lose this knife before i break it. After all it has been through it still performs as well as the day i bought it. Very tough to beat this knife in the price range it is in.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
I've used this knife for general purposes for 2 years and have yet to sharpen it. The coating is wearing slightly, but the blade is still very sharp. I use the serrated portion of the blade about as much as the non-serrated portion.
The blade opening and closing mechanism is still incredibly smooth. The knife is well balanced in my hand both blade open and blade closed. The grip points are well suited for sweaty and wet hands.
The best part is that it has maintained all of its functionality and didn't suffer a scratch or dent after dropping it 15 feet down an elevator shaft (bizarre chain of events - could not duplicate in a 1000 attempts)...this is the one knife I carry every day.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
This is an awesome knife. Of course it's sharp and durable but the opening/locking mechanism is what sets it apart. Super easy to open and close with one hand. I definitely recommend the coated version, as I had a non-coated griptilian pick up some corrosion. The serration comes in very handy too, it really expands the utility.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
I have had this version of the Griptilian for almost 2 years now, and even with daily use it is still sharp as ever. The blade has just enough carbon in it to take an edge but not enough to be brittle. The spine of the blade is nice and square making it the ideal part to use with a fire steel. Handle shows only minimal wear after two years of daily carry, and the only part that shows how beat up this thing is, is the belt clip. Excellent locking mechanism as well. One of my concerns when originally purchasing the knife was the durability of the coating. I am just now starting to see the steel under the coating. Even with daily use I have yet to need to sharpen the blade (with a stone etc) i do hone the blade with a kitchen steel and this maintains the edge just fine. All in all if I ever need to replace this knife I can gurantee it will be with another benchmade.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
Great Knife! very sharp right out of the box, just don't lend it to friends!
They may use it to chisel ice off snowshoes, slightly chipping the blade. But you can send it to benchmade with 5 dollars and they will sharpen and tune it up to perfection!
