Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
Upon purchasing this, and taking it home, I went to Benchmade's web site and found this regarding the "Lifetime" Warranty: "The knife must be...accompanied by the original bill of sale, your charge or credit receipt or any satisfactory proof of the original date of purchase". Excuse me! Your companies good name isn't good enough? Keep the ORIGINAL receipt for a lifetime???
Likewise I found this under the FAQ's: "Q. If I pay extra, will you sharpen my serrations"?
A. "We do not sharpen serrations on any Benchmade knife currently. Feel free to contact us to confirm prices of new blades."
So Benchmade will manufacture serrated blades, and sharpen them at the factory, but they will not support their customers by providing a sharpening service? If I can't trust the factory to recreate the "factory edge", then how can I trust someone else?
K_e_r_s_h_a_w will sharpen ALL it's blades. They state: "Will you sharpen my knife"?
A. "Yes, we sharpen every knife sent in for warranty service as part of our normal procedure. We provide this service free of charge"
And C_o_l_d_ S_t_e_e_l: "Q: Will C_o_l_d_ S_t_e_e_l re-sharpen my serrated knife"?
A. "Yes. Just send the knife with (insignificant) payment to C.S. and we will take care of it. Please note that we re-sharpen knives in batches, so it may take up to 12 weeks before your knife is returned to you".
But Benchmade wants ORIGINAL receipts, and WILL NOT sharpen their own serrated blades!
I have e-mailed Benchmade, requesting a rational for this lack of customer support, and will update this review if new information is forthcoming.
But as I told Benchmade in my email, "To me, this lack of support, is a deal killer.
I have a specific question for you. Why do you refuse to support your customers who desire a factory sharpness on their serrated blades"?

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
When people complain about cleaning, its only because the inside needs to be cleaned with a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol when there is serious build up. Any problems with the knife (dulling, cracks, or anything else) send it to benchmade and the will fix or replace it. I have had it sharpened once and the clip replaced once over the past 5 years. It has handled heavy abuse by being dropped, used to cut items on rocks (fish mainly), and I have even fallen on it (I got hurt, it didn't). This can handle anything and if it doesn't it is backed by benchmade.
Service and delivery comments:
Slow delivery (not going to be overnighted back to you), product returned like new (if not better). Customer service was VERY helpful.

Comments about Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian Serrated Locking Knife - Olive:
I've owned this knife for over three years. I bought it to replace a lost knife. In the years I had it while serving as an Army medic, it was a wonderful tool that was always up for the job. I haven't had any problems with the plastic handle. If it's treated like a good knife should be, it should hold up for years of hard use. Cutting combat boots with this knife was always quicker than the issued trauma shears. Great investment, I've got it everywhere I go.

good knife, easy opening and closing. The belt clip loosens easily and I could not find an Allen Wrench small enough to tighten. the plastic grip fractured and "flaked" off, exposing metal underneath.

Great Knife! very sharp right out of the box, just don't lend it to friends!
They may use it to chisel ice off snowshoes, slightly chipping the blade. But you can send it to benchmade with 5 dollars and they will sharpen and tune it up to perfection!

This is a typical Benchmade knife. If you have never owned one, you should. I carry this knife with me all the time. It has a smooth action and can be opened effortlessly with the push of your thumb, and closed just as easily. It is razor sharp and seems to be holding up well.

I carry this knife everyday, in and out of uniform. It has served me well for the past 6 months. Especially useful, beyond the features of the knife that are clear, is the lanyard hole. It's well placed for a tie-down.
The knife does accumulate sand and lint if you carry it every day, and can be difficult to clean. That's not a reason to buy this blade though - I recommend it to anybody wanting to put their knife through the wringer.
