    For having 3 leds this puts out just a fraction of the light that the Nite Ize 1-Watt LED Upgrade does. Definately go that way.

    This upgrade will considerably increase the light output of the standard AA mini-maglite. However, the new reflector which is necessary for the conversion is difficult to install because the lens cover is screwed on very tight at the factory and pliers will easily damage the sides of the flashlight.

    A definite necessity. Almost no need for spare batteries, cut down on weight, with this. I would give it 4.5 stars really, only downside is it would be nice to have a focused beam for a little more distance. I recommend this light upgrade for the minimag, but not the 2,3,4 d light version. The button has potential of being accidentally turned on so maybe without that too.

        I bught two of these a few years back to bring the advantages of LEDs and on/off buttons to my and my wife's mini maglites. The button on one didn't work out of the package and we exchanged it. Now a couple years later, one of the other buttons has stopped working, and this is with little use.

              With the revolution in LED bulbs, and wanting to preserve a trusty friend (my Mini-Mag) I bought this kit. I was severely disappointed. The light output is only marginally better than the original halogen bulb and there is no ability to focus the light once you change it over. I've been doing some research and I will be buying a Fenix LED flashlight soon. Nothing on the market touches them in terms of their combination of power, durability, and price. REI would do well to start carrying them; they are blowing away everything else on the market, even so called high end (and appropriately priced) lights by Inova and Streamlight.
