Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse 1 Tent:

I just came back from a 9 day kayak/camping trip in the Bahamas. On day 6 the top pole snapped. There wasn't any wind at all! We repaired the snap with a splint made out of wood and some duct tape. A few days later the side poles split. I was camping on the beach and the winds were maybe 12 mph ... not extreme. The poles seem to break easily. Would not recommend.

11 stakes is a joke, right?

Cons

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse 1 Tent:

Let me start by saying "I like this tent", but it is not for the "guy-out" timid. I have had this tent for a short time and found it to be roomy and flexible. What I mean by flexible is, if you mountaineer and find your self sleeping in a boulder field, the tent will conform to small and odd shaped spots. The "T" shaped pole set up helps. The end door is easy to get in and out of even with the fly on. Thanks to the roomy inside, I have been able to sit up and turn around easily. Also the "V" stakes that come with the tent are light and durable.

The things that I found to be slightly a bummer were:
**the door net when open. It would be nice to see a stash pocket or something to get it out of ones way.
**the fly is heavy for todays tents. The "SL" version might be a better choice, but the floor is lighter material and I spend a lot of time in granite.
**one can set up this tent with as little as 4 stakes (or rocks), but 6-8 is really needed to get a descent pitch for challenging weather. They give you 11 points to anchor this baby down and the stakes to do it, if you are overly concerned.

In conclusion, I did like this tent and found its shortcomings to be not that big of a deal. But with it approaching #4, even stripped down, their might be other tents to consider.

Roomy Solo Tent

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse 1 Tent:

I have used this 3 season tent for 2 years and find it roomy (for a solo), great in wind and pitches taut. It has only rained lightly once but had no problems and have never had condensation problems as it vents well. With stakes, poles, fly, tent, and footprint, it weighs in at exactly 4 lbs. It is longer than most solo tents and has enough width room to store things inside the tent with room to sleep. It has two storage pockets and the vestibule is large enough for boots and even stashing your backpack if needed. The SL model is lighter but if you're looking for an affordable solo tent, this is a great choice.

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse 1 Tent:

I love this tent except... as a previous poster mentioned... the poles are junk! On my cross country bicycle tour this summer I had the poles just start breaking right and left and by the end of the trip it was lots of duct tape every night splinting the tent stakes to the poles like splints. I would never buy this tent again. I would spend the money and get the SL1 with the Easton Poles for sure. Big Agnes should not even sell this tent if this is the pole set that comes with it. Complete garbage.

I really like this tent. It sets up easy and fast. It packs light. Has a small footprint so you can set it up in tight areas. It does collect condensation, but I haven't found one that doesn't. I can't find anything wrong with this one.

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse 1 Tent:

i bought this tent for warmer weather trips and so far have not been disappointed. Without the fly this tent will remain cool and is great for stargazing. I have run into some light rain and it also works very well even though getting in and out for a bigger person takes some manuvering. It has plenty of room on the inside (i'm 6'2) even for most of my gear. The only downside is that even with the rainfly if you happen to get caught in a pretty good wind the tent will hold up great but it could get pretty chilly inside as the wind will flow right through tent.
It still seems a little heavy for having so much mesh but I still recommend this tent.

This tent is extremely lightweight and secure. It repels rain and ventilates well. There is enough room inside for one person and a pack. It also provides the ultralight option of setting up with only the rainfly! Overall, it is a versatile tent that can be used on a variety of excursions. I use the seedhut 1 for all my backpacking adventures.

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse 1 Tent:

I'm 6'6", so finding a lightweight backpacking tent that fits was tough. The Seedhouse 1 fit the bill. It survived several trips, including cold and rain at Philmont, and kept me dry and comfortable. It was light enough, and easy to set up. There were a few minor nits that I had. 1) It takes a lot of stakes - 11 are provided, but I found I needed 2 extra. 2) The fly wants to touch at the bottom, letting one get wet, and 3) the entrance isn't the best for keeping rain from inside.

The stakes are very serviceable, even in the rocky soil of Philmont, but a couple more would have been useful. I ended up using the 2 side stakes to hold the fly separately at the bottom, thus keeping it from touching the mesh on the inside, but it left the sides unstaked and a bit weird. In addition, the extra guys for stormy conditions need extra stakes (which fortunately, I didn't need). We had several days of rain, and the opening could have been a major problem, but I knew the design going in, and I compensated by how I opened the fly and crawled into and out of the tent. Awkward, but I kept my sleeping bag dry.

Unlike other reviewers, I had no problem with poles, even in windy conditions. Probably a quality issue that Big Agnes has resolved. All in all, I'm happy with the Seedhouse 1.

Fastest and easiest I've ever set up. All my other tents gave me grief with the zippers if the tent was too tight or too lose. Not this one. I couldn't sit up in my last one, a Eureka Gossamer, and the zippers gave me trouble.
