    I've used this compass for about 6 years. Gear freaks will like the cool slide-out opening, and the mirror sighting makes it easy to sight at eye level.
    Though described as "small", the boxy design takes up some space in a pocket. If you just like compasses for their own sake, this is an interesting design. I like it a lot.

      I use this compass for archaeological surveys and for general hiking and backpacking. I find the MB-6 to be easier to use with high accuracy than any other mirror compass. I love the drop-down mirror design. When you sight, you see the needle and bezel marks silhouetted perfectly against the sky. If there's enough light to be hiking, there's enough light to read this compass. The matchbox design also keeps the markings from getting worn off - as happens to all of my baseplate compasses eventually.

      The MB-6 does not really have a usable ruler, just some bumps 5mm apart. For map work I add a non-ferrous ruler to my kit. It's not as fast for sighting as the aluminum block compasses, but it's much more versatile. It's possible to triangulate faster and with more accuracy than GPS when the satellites are having a bad day.

      I've used pocket transits that are ten times the cost, weight and bulk, and find the MB-6 to be nearly as accurate and versatile.
