Comments about SRAM PC971 Chain - 9 Speed:
Both my recent bikes had basic Shimano chains and as soon as it came to clean the chains for the first time, I bought a SRAM PC-971. The Powerlink is tremendously useful. Will never consider a Shimano chain again until they start using a similar system.
Chain is very smooth. The sticky goo on it is apparently some kind of lubricant, so don't bother trying to wipe it off. Works great right out of the box. Weight is probably on par with every other mid-field chain.

Comments about SRAM PC971 Chain - 9 Speed:
The SRAM PC-971 is the chain to buy if you need a 9-speed chain. The SRAM link makes the chain very easy to install and remove. Forget the Shimano method of pressing in a special pin and breaking it off; the SRAM link is better and simpler. No need to spend any more, this chain is great. Don't spend extra for chains with hollow pins or slots cut in the links. You'll save only a few grams, and pay a lot more. This chain has nickel-plated outer links and unplated inner links.
