Comments about Planet Bike Freddy ATB Fender Set - Clip On - Mountain:
I really like them and I stay much more dry than previously. However, the rear fender doesn't extend far enough back over my tire and so my back still gets some splash on it from my rear tire. The front fender works great. Really a good deal for the price though.

Comments about Planet Bike Freddy ATB Fender Set - Clip On - Mountain:
The initial installation was not as simple as I had hoped: none of the screws fit my Kona mountain bike. The instructions were easy enough to follow however, and once the "permanent" portion of the fenders is installed on the bike it's easy enough to clip the fenders on and off. I use my bike for commuting around town and as long as I'm not speeding through puddles the fenders do their job well enough. All in all I'd say it's a good buy for the casual biker who needs a cheap pair of fenders during the wet months of late winter and spring.

Comments about Planet Bike Freddy ATB Fender Set - Clip On - Mountain:
Comes with a variety of options for attachment to accommodate different frame-types; rear fender covers from seat tube to well-over wheel with plenty of clearance for 2.5" tires; front fender not compatible with rock-shox suspension fork; lightweight, but a little too flexible in the back, can cause tire-slap, but doesn't catch on the wheel.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the quality for the cost. I just wanted a rear fender, and have had bad experiences with the mtb seat-post mounted mudflaps. I ride an XC mountain bike, which I also use as a commuter bike, so these fenders work for me.

Comments about Planet Bike Freddy ATB Fender Set - Clip On - Mountain:
I was in the market for a cheap and effective fender that I could get on and off of my bike quickly, because I only needed to use it for biking to work on rainy days. I was not impressed when trying to install the fenders. First off, they don't clip on and off easily, only the back fender does. Secondly, unless you have a very casual bike, you will need zip ties to attach the back fender, which are not included. Very frustrating.

I purchased and installed these fenders in November 2009. After riding all Winter in the great Northwest, I am convinced these are the ticket. They cover road spray great, even at 20+ mph. Whats cool?, a stripe or clean clothes? My opinion stands... Buy Planet Bike Freddy Fenders. Get them and ride hard.

Comments about Planet Bike Freddy ATB Fender Set - Clip On - Mountain:
When I first started commuting regularly I bought a set of these because they were inexpensive and, having never used fenders before, I wasn't entirely sold on them. These are a HUGE improvement over no fenders and you learn their value.
There are three problems with these fenders:
1. They are flimsy. Don't abuse them.
2. You need a rack (or at least I did) to keep the rear fender reasonably close to the wheel in order to maximize the fender's effectiveness.
3. They aren't large enough to offer total coverage. They're decent, but don't go riding through puddles on purpose.
There are also three big positives about these fenders:
1. They're inexpensive, so you can try out having fenders with a minimal investment.
2. They cover the front and rear tire reasonably well, better than the ones that mount to the down tube or the seat post.
3. They are very easy to put on and take off if you don't want them on all the time.
All in all for the price I think they're a pretty good deal and they are an improvement over no fenders. If you ride your bike much dish out the extra money and buy a better full coverage set.

Comments about Planet Bike Freddy ATB Fender Set - Clip On - Mountain:
My bike is a Yukon Giant with disk breaks. On the rear there is an existing whole that works to mount the rear fender, but the clearance is very tight and you need to provide your own screw. On the front there is nothing to mount the front fender to. I am using wire and duct tape. No place to even drill a mounting whole. If you have caliper breaks it probably will work...but it is a bummer if you don't.

Comments about Planet Bike Freddy ATB Fender Set - Clip On - Mountain:
I think these are a great value. To have the option of riding in inclement weather, without a "skunk stripe", at this price, is great. Plus they can be removed if you are going offroad or just don't want them on. A couple of notes with regard to the other review ... I found the instructions folded inside the stapled cardboard that forms the packaging. Also, my bike (also a Specialized) did not have a hole all the way through the front fork as the other reviewer mentioned. But, since I didn't need ANY hardware in back, I just took the medium sized bolt, passed it through the reflector hole, and attached the front fender to it. So I really can't take anything away from the product. I have had the fully attached Freddy Fenders on this bike and loved them too; I just prefer the versatility the clip-ons provide. I don't expect the same level of protection, of course, but it is worth it for the convenience. Also, as to the durability - I had freddy fenders on a commuting road bike and had a crash such that the front fender rode back under itself. I took off the wheel, straightened the struts and the fender, and went off. The durability of this material/product is exceptional. Go Planet Bike! Go REI!

Comments about Planet Bike Freddy ATB Fender Set - Clip On - Mountain:
I bought these fenders for a Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike I ride to the train station each day. The fenders are light and durable. However, installation was a challenge. First of all, instructions are not included in package. You must go online [...] and download them. The instructions are not perfectly clear. The back fender did in fact clip on and provides nice protection. The fender is pretty close to the tire, this might not be good if your tires are going to get caked with mud. However, this is not a problem for me since I just ride to the train station and do some light offroad on the weekends. The front fender does not clip on as promised. You need to pass a bolt through your front fork to install. This should be simple, but my bike does not have a hole there so I had to drill it (who knows how this will affect structural integrity of the bike!). Just keep this in mind if you are thinking about buying these fenders. All in all, good product for the money.
