I needed something quick (and cheap) for the SoCal heat season and found these at the July sale. Lighter Lycra than I would prefer, but for the price I paid these will certainly 'do'. Main quibble is that the leg grippers are not really grippy at all and ride up rather loosely - better function in this area would have resulted in a 4-star rating. General fit is fine in waist and hip; comfy flat seams.

I bought these because they were relatively inexpensive. For anything longer than about an hour of riding they are extremely uncomfortable. It is basically a pad sewn into a pair of shorts. But it has a huge (and not particularly soft) seam right at about where your panty line would be if you were wearing undies, so about an hour into a ride, it starts chafing like crazy. It took about two days of not riding for the chafing to go away. Just wearing regular underware and shorts would be better than these. I'm returning the ones that I haven't opened yet. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on the other two pairs I bought and washed before trying them out. Spend the extra money and get real bike shorts.

Bought my usual size small and was astonished to see how large they fit - the leg grippers almost had some free space. Equivalent to other manufacturer's medium. Still sorta wearable, probably in hotter weather, but if I buy any more they'll be size XS to get a modicum of compression. Recommended only with qualifications related to sizing.

These shorts are AWFUL! I noticed the padding was a bit thin, and so was the fabric, but it's 90 degrees outside so thin might be nice, and the price was great,[...]5.Of course, I got what I paid for. I don't know why I didn't realize what junk these are when I looked at the chamois, maybe I was too excited about the price. The chamois is made of rough (like corduroy) fabric, and there's plastic in the seam where the chamois is sewn to the shorts. Hello chafing city!My commute is only two miles, but within 3 blocks I knew these shorts were awful and couldn't wait to get home and take them off. The rough fabric catches pubic hair, as well as rubs, and the plastic at the seam chafes like nobody's business. Not to mention, whatever fabric that chamois is made out of, it doesn't wick, so I got home with a very sweaty crotch just from a 10 minute ride. And don't even THINK about using chamois butter with them, what a mess that would be!These shorts went straight back to the store that night! I was completely shocked to see such a terribly made product being sold by REI. Even their low-price products usually have a certain level of quality, but these shorts are like something you would expect at Walmart.DON'T waste your money. The extra $10 to get a pair of Novara shorts is SOOOO much more worth it.Take a look at the shorts when you're buying them, and you'll see what I say is true. I don't know how these terrible things actually got any rating higher than 1 star. Maybe those people are wearing underwear and only riding for 1 mile? I'd have been more comfortable riding home in jeans and underwear!
