Bought Canari bike shorts in Portland store in June '07. I had never owned padded biking shorts before, [$] I use them for biking on bike trails here in Ohio, on my exercise bike in the garage during the winter, and just bought a second pair for May when a friend and I will bike the Natchez Trace Parkway. I recently had my bikes serviced and checked out the shorts for sale at the repair shop. The padding was significantly thinner than on the Canari shorts. The Canari fit snuggly, but not too tight. They give excellent support. The padding really helps on long rides, even with a padded seat. I have not found the non-sealed seams to be any problem at all. The Canari are a real bargain at the REI price. Since I just ordered a second pair, I have "put my money where my mouth is."

Good shorts that have excellent padding. The only drawback is that, for me, the elastic feels a little loose. When riding, the shorts tend to slide down my waist. Other than that, they are great shorts. Can't beat the price.

Picked these up and they've been good so far. Disregard the other reviews about lack of padding - it's normal and just fine. I've had no chafing problems; the only con has been that the seam in front can be a little uncomfortable but its not really a big deal.

I'm 5'9", 160lb and the small is what I needed. I have a 30" waist and the medium was definitely too large in the waist.

Overall a good pair of shorts for a super cheap price.

Worst bike shorts I ever tried. I bought this because it was cheap and I needed a cheap simple shorts for quick rides. The padding itself was not too thick and fairly comfortable. However, there was not enough material around the crotch. The amount padding around the crotch tapers to about an inch wide. I ordered this shorts online and was suprised at the lack of padding when I got it but decided to give it a shot. Bad mistake. On a 30 mile test ride, I got the most sever chaffing I have ever gotten, even with liberal application of Chamois ButtR. On top of that the inside seam on the left leg split open after 20 miles. I guess you get what you pay for, but save yourself some pain and avoid these shorts.

I tried them for about 30 miles and I was in such PAIN! when I got home I compared them to my others and it has no side Padding! Like the ran out of PADDING that day! These bar none have been the Worse shorts I ever WORE
