Comments about Osprey Meridian Wheeled Convertible Pack - 22'':
My wife and I love this bag. I debated for days between this bag, and the similar one from Eagle Creek, and after busing through Mexico for two weeks, traveling in Burma/Thailand, India, and Nepal I have no doubts!
It takes a beating, it fits on the overhead, and my wife somehow stuff enough clothes and products to last her two weeks!
I love the fact I can wheel it through the airport, its got great handles so I can carry it up steps, or through crowded aisles, but when the road ends up on a beach, a typhoon flooded road or the water war in Khao San Road, it comfortably fits on my back.
The daypack is a little weird, because it zips from the back, and at first I didn't like it. But after being swallowed by a sea of people during a Hindu pilgrimage, where we couldn't move left or right and just flowed with the mass of humanity, we were glad to know that the only way to get into our backpack was if we took it off.
Seriously, Osprey has made an amazing bag. I highly recommended it!

I took this pack on a 10 day trip to Japan where we went all over the place by train. I had no trouble with using this pack as luggage. The wheels rolled smoothly everywhere, the pack straps were very useful in Japanese cities (where they like stairs), and I found the bag very sturdy and rugged.
My intense dislike for this luggage stems from the daypack. I'm an avid hiker and traveler and like packs that I can organize well. My intent was to get luggage with a daypack that can be used for day-hiking. I absolutely could not deal with the way everything I put into the bag just slumped down to the bottom in a jumble. There was a serious lack of organizational pockets or dividers, and the semi-rigid, curved shape of the front of the bag just funneled everything to the bottom in a pile. I also didn't like how you could only open the bag to put stuff in it by unzipping the back off the bag. Maybe it's for security but it sure limits this bag to city-only travelers. It's almost un-usable for hiking (or at least really annoying).
Also, if your main luggage is a little bit over packed, it's really hard to zip the day pack back on the front if you've packed it full as well because of the way Osprey chose to position the connecting zipper.
Since the whole point of getting this bag was the removable daypack, I returned the bag as soon as I got back from Japan and bought something else.

After serious consideration and being so highly recommended[...], I thought this bag was the perfect answer to my travel needs. On the first leg of my 3 month multiple stop adventure, the bottom bracket (holds the bag upright) broke! So much for light weight, high quality, plus HIGH priced Osprey!!!!

I hemmed and hawed about [$] bucks for this pack. Glad I plunked down for it. I have traveled all over the US and overseas with -- often on short trips. I wanted something versatile and that had more space than the standard carry-on size. Great that the primary pack is exactly overhead spec sized--so if some nutty plane perseon actually were to measure it -- no problem just unzip the outer pack and claim that as a personal bag. Easy and very convenient to remove the outer pack for small plane overheads but fits 99% of plane overheads with the outer pack attached anyway -- as long as it's not overstuffed. Solid construction. I actually camped with this thing, too, once. The pack fits very well for hiking outdoors, or more often, around the NYC subway where wheels are made impractical by crowds and many flights of stairs.

I'd recommend getting a regular 22" carry-on like the REI inside passage and using a normal daypack instead of buying this bag.
I have not used the main backpack and I think the harness system compromises inside space for your gear. I bought it for the versatility, but the reality is, 9 times out of 10 I am gonna be rolling this guy through the airport, not carrying it on my back. However, the harness system on this pack is the best compared to similar style bags (ie Victorinox). The zipping motion for the main bag is awkward and not easy to execute.
The daypack is functional, but also awkward. It holds my laptop, big headphones, travel pillow, sunglasses, and a couple of magazines well. However, I find the shoulder straps on this deployable bag uncomfortable (too narrow). A regular daypack or messenger bag will serve you better than this daypack.
I also agree with and have experienced all the previously mentioned criticisms (zipper placement on daypack & attaching the deployable daypack when either bag is full is difficult)

Comments about Osprey Meridian Wheeled Convertible Pack - 22'':
Overall, after 2 trips, I like this pack. It holds a lot, wheels like a dream, and with the backpack clipped in place, I can maneuver it easily. The quality is good.
Comments: some of the pros to the pack are also cons. The rear zipper on the daypack, as some have mentioned, can be aggravating. Opening the pack on your lap or in a seat, no problem... accessing it while attached to the pack- forget it esp when zipped, but even when just clipped. Good for security, bad for convenience (and yes, in the main section, all contents will end up in the bottom. Makes it a good carry-on for laptops etc.
Likewise, the zipper on the pain compartment tucks neatly into a bit of a dip on the front, not an easy zip but quite secure.
I would prefer for my own use if they had made the floor of the main compartment flat- and it seems that the suspension is way more robust than needed for the average user. Given the fact that I only use straps occasionally, I could handle a weight reduction or packing space increase. All told though, it's replaced my other bags for short trips, and I think it's got a good place in the market.

Started a job involving extensive travel both domestic and international. Wanted a versatile carry-on bag with a zip off pack that could serve as a brief case. Had to be top quality.
I've been all over with this thing and it has been bulletproof quality. Reviewers complaining about volume must be overpackers. I used this bag on a twelve day trip to India with business and leisure attire.
Most of the time I roll it but it's great to have the backpack function when you need it. The backpack suspension is first rate (just what you'd expect from Osprey).
As many have noted the daypack is a little weak but it works well for me as I use it exclusively for laptop and files.
For short trips it would be nice to have compression straps on the main bag as my stuff tends to float around the interior.
Overall: highly recommended!

Comments about Osprey Meridian Wheeled Convertible Pack - 22'':
I bought this pack primarily to use on business trips where I fly on commuter planes or use Amtrak. Both of those have stairs for accessing which was tough with separate suitcase and briefcase.
This luggage allows enough room for a couple of days of business casual clothes, and the day pack works as a computer bag.
As another reviewer said, the day pack is tough to organize, as there is only the computer sleeve and a couple of small pockets. Also when the main pack is really full (or when the day-pack's laptop sleeve is full) it is nearly impossible to zip the day pack to the main pack, so just the clips must hold it on.
It's really convenient though because once packed and connected, there is just one piece to carry through the airport or train station, and it can be backpacked up/down stairs comfortably.

This pack is a lifesaver! I hated checking baggage, so I bought this, and it works beautifully. Easy access pockets to take those liquids out for security, and very very roomy especially for a carry-on size pack. When I use it as a backpack, the straps feel great. Amaxing fit, and strength is easy to see...

Lugged this pack from the East Coast (US) throughout SE and Central Asia and it held up well to all sorts of travel abuse. The wheels are sturdy and can handle quick turns, city streets, and remote roads that are dusty or muddy. Stable frame when worn as a backpack, and light enough for quick transit. Rugged yet stylish fabric construction that's distinct from every other black piece of luggage. Its capacity is adequate for 10-12 day trips with compressed clothing; size up to the 28 in. for longer trips. Handy detachable backpack that carries a 15 in or smaller laptop w/in its padded compartment, easy to access pockets that also show how Osprey thought of security. Great for business or personal travel primarily because it can fit into the overhead compartment with ease.
