Comments about REI Meteor Pack - Youth:
I camp alot and my daughter wanted to come too. She is 10 and rather slender so finding a bag that would fit was tough. This bag is fully adjustable and will grow with her and my other children. the colors are neutral for boys and girls and it was lite enough to not weigh her down. I wish the sleeping bag compartment could fit a normal size bag but we made due. This bag is worth the money. Definite take this one over the small kids bag from [...]. Thanks

Comments about REI Meteor Pack - Youth:
We had an eleven-year old boy who was starting boy scouts and needed a good flexible pack. He's small for his age, but we expect a tremendous amount of physical growth over the next few years. I think he's 4'7 and 73lbs right now. On its smallest settings this pack fits him just fine - but he is not allowed to miss any meals or the pack will be too big!
Its flexible enough that I think it will last him until he's 15 or so. That's what we liked most about the pack. Its a technically complete and thorough pack with all the right pockets, straps and configuration that will allow him to carry all the equipment he needs for an extended stay in the woods. I was very happy with it.

Comments about REI Meteor Pack - Youth:
I bought this pack for my 9 year old daughter's first overnight backpacking trip. I'm old school on backpack frame style, but this internal frame worked great for her -- she found it very comfortable.
I still think the lower section (in the newer internal frame backpacks) is too small for a real sleeping bag to stuff inside, but we found one that fit in there and I packed an extra wool blanket for her.
I'll probably buy another one next year, if my second daughter takes to packing with us.

Comments about REI Meteor Pack - Youth:
After trying literally dozens of packs, all the way up to the Osprey packs that could be ordered in XS sizes, I couldn't find a pack to fit my 5' tall short fit frame.
Finally I thought - what about a kid's pack? I found this one and it was perfect from step one on the trail. It adjusts down small to fit my short frame, but had plenty of padding for my 25 pound load. The sleeping bag compartment fit my down back just fine, and I had more than enough room for several nights in the backcountry. The bear canister fits inside as well!

Comments about REI Meteor Pack - Youth:
This pack needs better padding in the back an a little more room inside. But it would be good for day hikes and overnight camping trips. Not backpacking trips.

Comments about REI Meteor Pack - Youth:
I rented this pack for my 9 year old son when I took him on his first backpacking trip last weekend. The pack was roomy, comfortable, and has lots of pockets. He loved it!!!!I think this is a great pack, but there is one draw back, the hip belt. My son is tall and thin. The hip belt could not adjust to a small enough size to properly place the load on his hips, so most of the weight was on his shoulders. Also the plastic loop that attaches the hip belt base to the belt/belt buckle turned sideways. This did not allow the belt to tighten properly. If this loop could be redesigned so as not to turn this pack would be 5 stars all the way.

Large top compartment that can be a day hike pack or left behind if you don't need the extra space.

Comments about REI Meteor Pack - Youth:
Got this pack last minute for my 11yo boy scout's 1st hike/camp. He is about 60 lbs and the smallest kid in the pack. He had a zero bag,pad,2 person tent, and all of his personal gear. I think it weighed almost as much as he did. It fit well, good hip fit and adjustable straps worked great. tent fit in side pockets, bag in pack, tight fit but it worked well.
