Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
Excellent daypack. The problem is not with the pack, but that important information is missing from the description/specs. The small/med/large packs differ not only in their capacity but in their top-to-bottom length. (I.e., Osprey has added volume not just by adding space outward, but up and down.) I'm 6'0" and the med pack has all the volume I need but turned out to be too small for my torso. For this pack, torso size, *not* volume, should be your first consideration when deciding which size to purchase.

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
I’ve had this pack for one spring / summer season and the start of the winter. It has been with me on every hike into the Chugiak ( Alaska ) about twice a week. Its pros are its cons. It is very light weight, well balanced and streamlined, a plus for bush whacking in the alders. It holds every thing you want for a technical day hike ( rope, food, misc gear ) or a day out snow shoeing . One of the cons is when weighted down with ropes ( or your flavor of weight ) the connection between the hip belt and the pack digs into your back. Unloaded ( or not over loaded ) the stream line couture is a pro. As stated before the mesh back is a plus and molds very well, but this area is useless with the exception of the hydration bladder ( this is also a Pro because if you compress your pack down the bladder has its own area so every thing stays dry ). Now maybe its because I live in Alaska, but some one stated before they put 5 days worth of gear in here( tent food sleeping bag etc ) , max loaded for me was a Jetboil, an OR bivy, a big A sleeping pad, and a compression sack with some cloths ( poly jacket, /gortex shell, OR gaiters and my pant legs off my zip off’s. ) with 3 dehydrated food pouches in the outside pocket there was no room for my down bag so it was roped outside… in this configuration it was miserable. Other cons things fall out of the old style pockets I think they have made them a bit higher now with a banana like curve also you need a pack shell as its sponge even just bush wacking.
Conclusion:
I love this pack. As a technical daypack there is none better, I’ve put it though its paces more then a few times. Its very very durable Osprey did more then a fabulous job designing this. If a technical day pack is what your after then look no farther. not only would I recommend it, when and if mine dies I'm getting another one.

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
Well made, well thought out. Good pack for those who don't pack like Diana Ross (or my wife). Shape of interior of pack is new to me, as the aircore back has a curve to it, and the structure of the pack doesn't leave any big, flat space for my Eagle Creek folder (which now has a little bow to it). I don't really need the folder anyway.
Way comfortable for my long torso. D rings on the straps would be nice.

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
This backpack is well suited as a daypack -- especially in warmer weather. The bag wears comfortably, & the ventilation is SUPERB. It is probably too small for overnight hiking use, unless you are a minimalist. I use this bag for overnight, in conjunction with UL gear & a bivy sack. Anything larger & you'll NEED a larger bag. Getting used to packing in a curved configuration (because of the aircore mainstays) may take a little rethinking at first, but is not a problem (unless you needed to pack something rather flat & bulky like a laptop). The size of this bag & comfort has made it my top choice also for travel. It easily fits in overhead or under the seat on airplanes, & allows me to carry considerable loads effortlessly. On my latest trip to Vietnam, besides keeping me cool & comfortable in high-humidity, the strapping system won my respect. It quickly & easily cinched down on everything -- from just a couple of essentials & raingear, to doing "mule duty" with loads of fruits & other tourist items.

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
I bought this to double as a hiking and biking bag (to carry camera) and found that the bag itself simply rides too high on the shoulders digging into my neck when I ride. I love the bag but it doesn't work well for biking

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
This pack is great! It is surprisingly light for how comfortable it is. A lot of thought went into making this pack, from the quick adjust and release ice axe/gear attachments to the whistle built into the buckle. The packs fit and weight distribution give it excellent balance for climbing.
One of my favorite features on this pack is the fact that it gives you two options for carrying camelback style hydration bags. There is an interior pocket where you can place one and this works fine for most day hikes, but if you need the extra interior volume for a overnight stay or a light alpine rack you can hang the hydration bag in the mesh area between the main compartment and your back.
I am surprised people find this bag too small for day hiking. It easily fits what I need for peak bagging trips which sometimes includes ice axe, crampons, a small rack, and half of a double rope.

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
This pack is so close to perfect. Day hikes are the intended uses and it has plenty of room and comfort for that. It is so close to be able to be used for multi-day hikes but it doesn't have outside straps for a tent. I'd say if they could add the extra 2 straps on the bottom for a tent it couldn't get any better. I know that is not the intended use but for people who pack light it would be a great benefit.
get outdoors!

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
This is a great pack if you want to go relatively light but I find there isn't enough room in it for extra gear essentials. I use it just on very hot days when I know the weather will hold and I won't need lots of extra clothing. The pack sits away from your back and allows air to flow between your back and its back. This air flow feature combined with the ability to fit the pack to you with excellent strapping options are the pack's 2 great features. A plus is a chest cross strap. If you don't use a hydration pack system with a tube which I haven't tried in it yet you can hardly fit much in it except 1 or 2 water bottles which end up taking up a lot of the available space. The open top side pouches are a bother because you worry if things could fall out. They don't hold much either, just a sunscreen or bug repellent tube or maybe an eyeglass case. Pockets on the waist belt are nice to have for small items but I don't think using mesh fabric for them as well as for the inside pocket is a good idea. Although the see-through feature is nice things like forks usually tear the mesh resulting in holes in the mesh. I'm debating whether to go back to a pack with larger zippered side pouches to hold water bottles and a pack that doesn't arch out as much as this one does although that is how it manages to allow air to flow between it and your back. The irony is that this positive feature seems to be the cause of its negative feature which is it takes away space in the pack. I would recommend this to a friend for short day trips (especially on hot days) requiring a light amount of gear.

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
This is my second pack from Osprey (first was the Atmos 50, a tremendous fastpacking/backpacking bag), and probably my favorite of all time. The air core frame keeps your back dry on all but the hottest of days, a hydration bladder can stow in 2 different locations to accomodate more storage, and the hip belt pockets are great for carrying energy bars, gorp, and even a slim point and shoot camera w/case. The main compartment capacity is very good, though limited somewhat by the inner aluminum frame struts which allow for the aircore to do its job. I do a decent amount of hiking on/near the AT, and this bad boy goes with me on every day hike there, regarless of season!

Comments about Osprey Stratos 24 Pack:
I have several different configurations.
Heavy, medium, light and ultralight backpacking. Each configuration is in its own plastic crate. Makes for very fast planning and packing.
This pack is used for light backpacking.
Its made very well. Top quality!
The ventilated back is GREAT for hot weather, which is why I got it. Even in cold weather its great, because I tend to sweat all year when I hike. I really dislike having a hot, sweaty back. The ventilation really helps.
I dislike the overly curved shoulder straps. Its more configured for females or men with small shoulders or children. I wear a large/extra large shirt and I have wide horizontal shoulders. Its no big deal if your shoulders are sloping or medium and smaller size.
I prefer black everything. This was the closest Osprey had. I don't like to be highly visible because there are places I hike near small towns where I prefer the locals didn't know where I was.
I like the front opening zippers. This is convenient for getting at things without taking everything out.
The pack is cramp, but roomy enough for a light weight configuration. I can fit in a down bag, tarp, a snow peak titanium stove, one canister, and all the little nicj nacks for a 2 night stay.
I use bungy cords to strap the mattress on the front. Had Osprey made the front compression straps anout 5 inches longer I wouldn't have to use the bungy cords.
I like Osprey or someone to make a silnylon ultralight version of a bag light this (ventilated back).
