For your reference, this page contains historical product information.

High-altitude mountaineering requires a stable, wind-worthy shelter--the Spire combines these attributes in a simple, lightweight design.

  • The Spire boasts Evolution Tension Arch™ technology, dual doors and vestibules and a trail weight of less than 5 pounds
  • For strength, a system of non-stretch panels map the tent's main tension lines along the poles and down the side panels to the main guy points
  • These panels act as a fabric truss structure that resists deformation by holding the poles in a stable arch
  • Compared to traditional tent fabrics that stretch and allow poles to bend, this truss structure reinforces the poles with the tent body structure
  • Atlas Scandium XL™ poles are very light, super strong and completely field serviceable without tools
  • Additionally, these tough XL poles come with subzero Shok™ cord and heat-treated aluminum threaded pole tips
  • Dry-entry vestibule design prevents water from dripping inside tent when vestibule is open, improving livability
  • Trim floor design fits well on narrow ledges and snow platforms
  • Internal guy system provides additional rigidity to the structure by creating resistance to the flexing/ deformation of the frame
  • All exposed seams are welded or taped and waterproof, so there is no need for seam sealing
  • Water-resistant, inverted, double rainfly zippers allow ease of ventilation
  • Gated Power Clips at all pole intersections increase structural strength
  • Large stake out loops accept both skis and snow pickets
  • Bar-tacked stress points add strength and durability; bias-bound zippers allow ease of use and extended zipper life
  • Welded mesh storage pockets help keep things organized inside
  • Other technical features include reflective guy-out loops, reflective zipper pulls, welded guy clip anchors and Super-light™ buckles and webbing
  • Reflective starter points make setup in the dark a breeze
  • Expedition-adjustable fly attachment features a tough snap-hook, aluminum O-ring and buckle system for easy use with gloves
  • Pitch Light Option: Fly, poles and footprint (sold separately) pitch without canopy for an ultralight shelter
  • Includes stuff sacks, aluminum Y-pegs and owner's manual
  • Average minimum weight specification is based on tent, rainfly and poles only

Mountain Hardwear's Watertight Construction: Thoughtful design, taping and welding technology combine to make this tent watertight off the shelf. No seam sealing is required.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Spire 2 Tent:

Used the tent on 10 days north of the Brooks Range in Alaska. Temps ranged from 50 to 24F with sustained winds from 5-15 knots. Saw morning frost, light rain, and light wet snow.

Tent performed as advertised. Stable in the high wind (used optional internal tension system), waterproof, easy to set up, etc.

This tent is an awesome one person tent. Two people fit but it is very tight-couples would do better than friends. The two vestibules are likewise small. Plan to only bring essentials inside. Forget using stoves and storing any gear in the vestibule simultaneously (if you are into that).

If you need a great cold/wet weather tent for one or very familiar two get this tent.

Perfect for upper mountain applications where you require a light, small-profile shelter that protects you from the elements.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Spire 2 Tent:

I have used the tent a several times now and I love it. My only complaint is that it could be a couple of inches wider. I bought it to use for two people and it works fine for us but I can see where some might have an issue.
