Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Regular:

I have used this bag in temps ranging from 5 degrees F to 50 degrees F (more as a blanket at that point).Let me first say that the bag is warm and quite comfortable and if there were no design flaws or customer service issues I would highly recommend the bag.At the very lowest temperatures I have used the bag in, it has kept me warm other than a very annoying problem with the draft tube designed to insulate against cold air coming through the zipper. This design gets an F from me because every time you move, air will come through. There is no mechanism for it to stay put, such as small tabs of velcro or a windproof flap on the outside. Although the fabric that the bag is made of does retain down, the seams DO NOT! Initially, the amount of down lost was minute...maybe 5-10 feathers per trip, but after about two years of use and maybe 15 nights in the bag it has been losing more like 25 feathers or so through all of the seams and stitching.Final complaint - the draft collar that you cinch around your neck has become unstitched from the rest of the bag and there is now a two inch space where down flies out of. One night with this hole and it almost looked like snow inside my tent. [...] Not sure how others may feel about this but first, why did this problem happen on a [$] bag and second, why would Marmot not be willing and quite honestly anxious to take care of the problem quickly and quietly? Very disappointed in the customer service received from Marmot.

Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Regular:

The major problem that I have with this bag is that the water-resistant membrane does not allow body heat evaporation to escape the bag. If it is below freezing, upon waking up, one can feel ice crystals in the down close to the shell.
The bag dries very quickly if there is sun, and if there isn't a wet bag is the result. This appears to be a serious design flaw with this product.

Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Regular:

This is an excellent bag for winter / snow camping and backpacking. Unrolled and lofted it looks huge, but with a compression (not the one included) you can squeeze it down to just bigger than a football. It will then easily fit into almost any sleeping bag compartment. The loft retention is fantastic. And this bag is warm. I sleep warm anyways, so I could use this bag well below zero if needed. Nonetheless, almost anyone would be comfortable in this. It is very roomy with a great footbox. The DWR coating is good, but as with any down bag, I wouldnt sleep out in a rainstorm with it. But for tent condensation or a little drizzle it will do just fine. This bag is highly recommended.

Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Regular:

After shivering in another brand's 15degree bag, I picked up this Marmot Couloir. The we went out to camp at Mt. Rainier for 3 nights. The difference is like night and day. After climbing into the Marmot it is like a furnace has kicked on and you feel the heat within a couple minutes. Some bags are made for fast and light, and unfortunately that translated into light and chilly. At 40 degrees the other brand 15 degree bag was fine, and the Marmot was a tad too warm. No worries, just unzip the Marmot either at top or bottom or both and enjoy the comfort and luxury of never getting too cold. At 45 degree and higher, it can be used more like a quilt or blanket and keep you plenty warm. And at 20-25, even the ladies will be warm and snugly in the Couloir.

If you are a cold sleeper, or have trouble finding a bag that is warm enough, packs up small, and weighs around 3lbs, this is it. Just be sure to pick up a good Sea to Summit Dry compression sack (it will fit in a small, but a medium does fine and you can still compress it down and fit in a small pillow, jacket, base layer, etc as well. Just keep it dry in your pack and you'll be toasty even at 0-10 degrees outside. I have found my new best friend for cold weather camping/backpacking. It lofts up great, and has good size for turning and moving while still keeping you warm.

Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Regular:

It's pricey, but I've always liked Marmot gear, and this is the best yet. What I like best about it is that it is both roomy AND warm. I haven't experienced any of the downsides reported by a couple of the other reviewers after about 25 nights in the bag. Very cozy, room to roll around without getting twisted up in a snug-fitting bag. Even though it is roomy it is still plenty warm (I've used it down into the teens). I love this bag and am on here now to shop for a 20/30 degree version from Marmot with the same specs if I can find one.

Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Regular:

I have had one of these since 2004 and it is finally getting a little flat. I don't wash it more than necessary which kept it lofty for a long time. It has been a great, warm bag that has more than paid for itself when you consider the cold conditions the bag allows you to camp in. Very silky inside, very very lofty when new, seams have held up over the years, fairly water resistant if you spill something on it. I'd buy one again even though they are expensive. This is a different animal (better quality) than the $200 bags.
