Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I've taken this baby camping many dozens of times, with a Thermarest LE 3/4 and a North Face Climbers Bivy. Summer at the ocean - no problem, just unzip the bag and bivy and let some cooler air in. Winter is where the bag is meant to perform, and it does it's job well. I've had to shake the baffles a few times to get the down to loft in the right places, but I suspect that may be the case with all down bags. Great foot space, a little tight around the hips, and excellent head space. The tight hip space (36-38 inch waist if my pants tags are to be trusted) makes it hard for me to flop back and forth between sleeping on my stomach and back, but it's no more than a minor inconvenience.
It's greatest strength is it's greatest weakness, and that's the down. Gotta keep it dry, which can be a challenge in a bivy sack setup if the weather turns foul. Again, this is a problem for all down bags, not just the Couloir.
I'm afraid I haven't had a chance to try other high end down bags to compare the Couloir's performance to, but I can say with confidence that I love my Marmot bag. A lot.

Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I bought this bag for winter camping and for high altitude overnight stays. So far I've used it only once in about 20 degree weather. All there was between me and the snow was my tent and a[...] sleeping pad. The bag kept me at a great temperature all throughout the night. The material on the bag is also very comfortable. I usually do use a bag liner as well so I can't really comment on how well it wicks away moisture.Overall I think this is a great bag that will take care of most people in all but the most extreme situations.

Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Long:
Bought an earlier year model of the same bag. Nothing much has changed on this model and I feel nothing needs to. Went camping in late fall and early winter in the Sierras and this kept me perfectly warm. Has two way zippers to let some of the cold air in if you are feeling too warm.
Would recommend using a liner or treating it with water repellant/proofing spray. Even a light sprinkle gets the bag cold and wet. Hence wouldnt recommend sleeping in the open with dew. Otherwise its a great bag and there is nothing to beat the down filling for loft/weight ratio.

Comments about Marmot Couloir +0 Sleeping Bag - Long:
The Couloir is a bag I had considered for some time. When I finally made the purchase (Feb 2009) I was not disappointed. At just over 6', I chose the long bag. It has plenty of room (for a mummy bag) and the foot box is roomy and warm. The zipper pulls smoothly and cleanly but is not immune to an occasional snag.
This bag has been used in mild conditions where it was too warm and ended up being a nice down blanket as well as in cold, windy, high altitude conditions (0-5F temp, much colder windchill) where it was fully sealed and toasty. So far I have not been cold and I am a cold sleeper. Paired with a nice thermarest/enso pad combo, this bag will certainly keep you warm.
So far the baffles seem to be keeping the fill evenly distributed and I have no problems to report with thin sections or bunched up fill. Time will tell, but so far so good.
There is plenty of shoulder room and the larger dimensions of this bag are nice when you need to shift to get comfortable. There could be a bit more knee room but for a mummy bag it has enough to keep me from getting claustrophobic. Much more room than my previous long bag from a well known brand.
Overall this bag is an excellent upgrade for someone who has suffered with an old bag long enough and is looking for a roomy, warm bag. if you frequently camp in conditions below freezing or are a cold sleeper, this bag is a winner. Pricey for sure, but well worth it if you value a nice night's sleep in the high country.
